We started looking for elementary schools for our son when he was still in preschool. The nearby public school was just “okay” and I knew he needed more than that. He’s an extremely bright child, but has a summer birthday and was not as emotionally ready as other kindergartners. We started touring private schools and found that most of them were either too small (not enough extracurricular activities) or too expensive. Some of the schools we considered seemed to have the Christian education right, but not necessarily a well-rounded academic curriculum. We finally discovered SHCA and the moment we began our tour, I knew it was the right place for our son. Small class sizes, smiling teachers and students, a huge computer lab and gym, as well as library, art, music and Spanish classes. The price is very affordable (approx $9k per year) which is on the low end of the private school spectrum. When we enrolled our son, we decided to actually move closer to the school even though my husband would have to drive a little further to work each day. This has made car line much easier. We love the Buford / Sugar Hill area and are so happy we moved closer to the school. By the time my son finished his kindergarten year he was so much more confident, mature, and could read like a 2nd grader! It was truly amazing! This year, his younger twin brother and sister are attending the academy. I wouldn’t do kindergarten anywhere else!!
We sent our daughter to this school for Pre-K and Kindergarten. We were so thrilled with the curriculum and the love the staff shows for these kids. We decided to try public school. It only took us 2 months to determine that it was the wrong move for our child. The light went out in our normally happy, kind child and she hated going to school. Behavior problems set in, she would cry on the weekends telling us she didn’t want to go back to school. We put her back in SHCA and immediately she is back to being happy and to her love of learning. This school makes the world of difference for our child and I fully trust them to teach my daughter not only academics, but love for others, our country and God.
I would not recommend this school the 2 stars I gave was for the after care faculty. The Pre-K full time teacher Ms. Oliver was not patient and was very mean to my daughter she even separated her from the class and told other girls they couldnt play with her because of her behavior. She was very raciest and separated the kids by skin color. She also made me believe she had some type of disability even when my my daughters pediatrician said she was right where she needed to be. Im not one to do reviews but this was past unacceptable. My daughter now goes to another school and is thriving.
