This school is a great school to go to, despite what many other people claim. Many people have complaints that the school is very stressful and you have too much work to handle. These people procrastinate and don’t realize that they are the only reason that they are stressed. Many friends told me they want to transfer, which may be a good idea from them. If you are not independent and rely on others, then this place is not good for you. You need to be able to work independently and develop good study habits along with a good work ethnic. The teachers don’t personally teach every student like other high schools, and the reason for this is because this school is meant to prepare you for college. In college, teachers/professors will not hold your hand and constantly remind you to finish your work. Kerr is meant to help you develop essential skills in order to succeed in the future.
Side note: People tend to compare Kerr with other high schools, saying that others are more easier and teach better. This may look like that to them, but in the end Kerr turns out to be the better school of choice when looking back on your high school years. The main differences between Kerr and other Alief High schools is that the people are friendlier, you gain a lot of freedom, the teachers don’t constantly nag on you, and that there are many great role models to follow.

I spent 4 years of my life here, and it was amazing. No worry about drugs, fights, or guns, people are nice. The system is unique, and its ONLY FOR people……who are independent…they give you a weeks work, 1 week ahead of time, and let you do it. people procrastinate and complain that the work load is too much…
The freedom in this school was amazing, you don’t need to stay in classes, teachers let students go around, you don’t need hall passes when I was there….you are responsible for getting things done, and if you can handle that, then this school is for you.
One problem with school is the amount of kids, so if a college looks at top ten percent, the amount of kids is low. Also, no sports, so if you want sports, not for you. Over all, had a lot of fun in there.
Kerr is a great school. In my opinion Kerr is an academic school and it takes a lot of work but if you are an independent student and you are smart then Kerr is the perfect place for you. It is the best school in Houston that I have ever went to. It is fun because there are some challenges but there are a lot of opportunities here. We have tons of new programs including the Bring Your Own Device policy where you can bring any type of electronic device to help you in school and you don’t get in trouble. I love this school and it is stressful at first but as long as you learn to stay organized and you plan you will pass all of your classes. I’m sad because know I have to move again but I would never want to leave.
