I disagree with the previous poster about Burr having poor facilities. True, it is an old building, like almost every CPS elementary school, but in my opinion they have really good facilities. They have a very active Friends Of group and PTO, and have been consistently raising money to provide 2 classes of Full Day Kindergarten, Pulse Beat Music, Looking Glass Theater, Japanese instruction for all 5 pre-k classes (k-8 already gets funding for Japanese through the World Language Magnet status), up to date technology, etc. They just got a wonderful organic learning garden last year, and this year are planning to install an amazing mosaic mural with Green Star Movement. Burr is a great school with a fabulous principal, several Board Certified teachers and involved parents. It’s a wonderful learning environment with a lovely sense of community.
One of the best Chicago Public Schools in the city’s network. Solid teaching staff, younger staff that are still fresh and vivacious. The Principal Mr. Klee is very involved with the school, the events and functions as well as with the parents. They have a lot of extracurriculars for the kids including cooking classes, karate, art, tumbling, dance, girl scouts, ect. Japanese language is part of the curriculum as well. I have an older daughter with Special Needs and her teachers and aides are top notch, and really care about her progression to independence and learning. The facilities do need upgrading as far as the restrooms, but they are fully functional. Great community, great teachers, great staff, great kids all promoting kindness within their culture.
