I am currently an 8th grader, completing my year at one of Brooklyn’s best middle schools, if not the best, and I can honestly say that it was a fantastic experience. Here at a I.S.187, the learning environment is very safe and is attended to with responsibility. The work is nothing short of challenging and difficult, but seeing that our school has gifted and talented students, the workload should not be overly hard for anyone. The teachers are very educated and express a passion for their subject visible to students at all times. Many of the teachers care about each and every student equally and offer help to any student who is having trouble with a task given in school or any other problem. Although there may be a lot of homework at times, the key to not feeling pressured or stressed is managing your time wisely. The kids in this school are very intelligent and are overall, very good students. There is no gang activity or any bad habits (smoking, drugs, alcohol, bullying) at this school and it is ensured that students are safe here. If you are a student reading this, I can ensure you, these will be 3 interesting and memory-filled years where you will make many friends! If this is a parent reading, your child will do great in this school and excel as long as they work hard to maintain their grades. It’s a really amazing school, and definitely challenging but fun! 🙂
It is overall a good school and also everyone I know says it is a really good school and some of the final projects are much easier and more fun than the regular projects, especially the math final projects where we could do anything and I made Clash Royale cards based on math which was fun to make and when someone made cake or something like that as a project, everyone got a slice which was cool and fun as well.
Some of the classes are fun while some are less fun but in pretty much all the classes we get to watch a movie at one point in the year even if it is not related to the subject. In tech we got to use things like Photoshop and Weebly which was fun and in math at the last month of the year we get to do more fun stuff and watch more movies. In (E)LA and Science we get to watch movies and read books like Jurassic Park which was pretty cool. We also had a lot of fun trips like I Play America (IPA), Funfest and movie theater trips, too.
There was also NIA which had fun things to do like Drone Flying, 3D printing, STEAM, Lego Robotics, Strategic Gaming and trips which sometimes took a school day (so less work for us??) like Luna Park which was so much fun.
I am currently a 7th grader and I LOVE this school. I don’t understand why people write negative reviews about it. All the teachers are awesome, and there is never a lot of homework (at least for me). I am in the Scientific Research academy and I really like it. People say Arts and Humanities is the best and that the rest of the academies are boring but that is wrong. In my opinion, Scientific is awesome and really fun as well. The education is very good and all the students are smart and nice. But the best part is that there is usually no homework on breaks. Over all, I am really satisfied with this school and I recommend it to everyone who gets accepted here 🙂
