I remember years ago, (a 3rd grade teacher) suggested (90 days after school had started) that my child be put in Special Ed, a student who had made A-B’s until she got in this teacher’s class and the teacher even stated that my child would not pass the TAKS (STARR) test. I replied “no, I’m not about to make your job easy or hers.” The FIRST teacher who had EVER suggested that. Anyway, my child passed the TAKS test on her own, and rather than being happy (for the student who the teacher said wouldn’t pass) and saying “you did it,” the teacher looked at my child and said “you passed” in a disappointing tone. Well, after that situation, my child once again started to make A-B’s in the 4th grade and so on. She (my child) have graduated and now attending college. Being that this teacher was the ONLY teacher suggested Special Ed through out my child’s entire school years, it really showed me her lazy/impatient side. ANYONE could have clearly seen that this student did not need Special Ed, she needed a teacher to say “do it this way, not that way” especially coming from second grade into third. My child even won the Quest Contest by writing an essay on a certain topic (while attended Moss) and won 2nd place in a science fair. Although its been about ten years ago, it’s just a matter that sticks in my head.
There was another 3rd grade teacher who really need to retire and lacked in her performance. My son was in this teacher class a couple of years ago. Again, just like the other 3rd grade teacher, all she did was point her finger and tell you what your child isn’t doing rather than asking” how can I help”? I’ve heard other parents speak in the same way about these two “educators.” Just note that they are still 3rd grade teachers. I don’t mean to be so harsh, but I’m only going by what I’ve seen as a parent. Some may have had a different experience, (with the older 3rd grade teachers) but it would truly be hard for me to believe it. The younger teachers like, Ms. Fant, Ms. Turner, Mrs. Jones, etc.. have awesome teaching skills and one can clearly see that they are concern teachers. Please hire new 3rd grade teachers.
