I am writing this review so other parents can read. I wondered why this school had no reviews even though some say it is a school to rave about. I don’t share the same view and would like to know what the raves are measured on. The school itself appears great on the outside but as you walk inside you can smell the mildew. Our child started the school and was sick from being subjected to old mildew smelling carpets. The downstairs room carpet was very filthy. The kids may appear happy but they trained the kids like they are in the army, very regimented routines. Don’t speak about the drop off and pick up. The administration is very inflexible and unfriendly. The administration appears to be nice until you decide to make a request that does not fall into their rule book. Is this the environment you want your child to be in? The kids are young and learn a lot from where they spend most of their day and certainly I will not want my child in this environment. Parents do your home work before sending your child there. I thought I did and with no reviews to go on, I realized that should have been a red flag.
My kids love it and have learned a lot! The facility grounds feel like a place to be a kid. The staff are friendly and truly seek to do the best for the kids. All staff has always been available to answer any of my questions/concerns. I had an outside child development specialist come observe my child during school and she had only positive things to say about the program and grounds – very age appropriate. With four young kids I love the pick up and drop off and the fact I don’t have to take small kids out of the car in all weather and across parking lots. I intend to send all four kids to Elmwood. My neighbor’s kids, who are now teenagers, attended elmwood preschool and still remember their experience there very fondly.
This preschool is excellent. Our child has learned so much in a very short time and asks to go to school on weekends! We looked at many different preschool (and daycare) options in lower Westchester and this school is at the top by far. The building is a historic building, but I’ve been in every room and never noticed mold. The administration is very regimented as the previous reviewer mentioned, however, the children thrive and when the administration has been doing this as long as they have, I have to believe there’s a reason.
