Even the New York Times reported on how the Department of Education was neglecting Dewey by doing this. The influx of Lafayette students were academically deficient and disorderly compared to Dewey students. The school became overcrowded and violent disruptions soared. Dewey had no say in this. How can you blame a school for something it wasn’t responsible for?
I would like for everyone and anyone that currently has a negative perspective/opinion on Dewey to reflect and look at what the school has been through, and yet, despite all of that, it manages to succeed in many ways. The students are diverse, analytical and talented. The teachers are hardworking, experienced and dedicated.
Do not be swayed by opinions from people who are clueless. Dewey is a great school with great facilities. Lafayette no longer exists, and the environment that used to exist has been flushed away. Visit the school for yourself to see this in action.
In New York City, such few large public high schools exist. Don’t let this gem slide by you because of an uninformed opinion. Be objective. Be smart.
