We are happy because our son is getting 1:1 time with his teachers daily and is coming home every day having built his confidence with letters, numbers, logic, music, stories, creative play and park time. He’s a different kid since he started in September. The Directors, Head Teachers and Assistant Teachers are all forthcoming, responsive, supportive, kind and are exactly the kind of educators I would wish for my children through 12th grade!
Their play station materials, weekly projects and events are varied and interesting. The space is bright, warm and welcoming. Unlike many schools, they get park-time in daily. They also help each child with their lunch and have been successful with even the most difficult of eaters (my son!). We get a daily note from his teachers to let us know exactly what he did that day (what books, play stations he opted for, activities, did he nap etc.) which gives us a greater connection to his day.
Having experienced both a public preschool option and PPA, there is no question, at all, that we would rule for PPA again. The difference is clear for us and the children have expressed the same (which says it all for me). Our daughter’s Kindergarten teacher said she could always tell if one of her students went to PPA because the children are better prepped socially and academically.
Highest possible recommendation from finicky local parents who want the moon for their children.
We researched it first, of course and everything looked good, and two other couples (with kids who live in our building) loved it, and gushed about how great it was. Now into our second year, we are more than happy with everything about it, our son loves it! I give the school 4 stars, 5 stars if that’s on the scale.
Their 1:4 teacher-student ratio can’t be beat, the large space has flexible structured work stations that are used in a clear and structured manner necessary for children, and is filled with with a pervasive sense of fun and play. The literacy enhanced space is full of books and the teachers read stories frequently, teaching a love of the printed word. The directors are current RE preschool education theory and practice. All have Masters and PhDs, and they are able to apply their knowledge, experience and training and make everything work with the kids, each of whom has their own personality, requirements and needs.
The two directors are great, and the teachers are remarkable. Everyone is unfailingly upbeat, but gentle and nurturing, striking just the right balance of care with expectation of success. Socialization, cognitive skills, emotional development are all addressed.
Kudos to Park Prep
Why two stars then ?
I found it very disturbing that the director of the daycare would not give a un-scheduled tour during business hours. She wanted the parents to schedule a time and come only at that time or during an open house (which is on a saturday).
What exactly are they not confident of ? cleanliness, treatment of kids ?
It surely seemed like she was trying to hide something.
Anyone can make a good impression at a set time. The one that shines is the one that is confident of its program and treatment of kids at any given time.
Btw.. I visited close to 10 different daycares in the vicinity and all were more than happy to provide a guided tour of their premises without an appointment.
The visit was made with my wife.
