I am a current Senior at this school and have attended it since the 6th grade. There is a lot I have to say about this school, but before I begin I have to address some of the bad reviews left by fellow students. To begin with, there is no lie that the bathrooms are a mess. However, that is due to the childish and reckless students that trash it on a day-to-day basis. The staff does everything in their ability to keep up with the cleanliness, but it has to get hard with so many students not taking care of anything in the bathroom. Second, the food is definitely mediocre; however, students fail to realize that it is not the school that hires the food company. Instead, it is entire Charter Schools Association that manages the food going into their schools. With that being said, the food has improved and, like I said, it is mediocre and definitely edible. Finally, I would just like to address the teachers. While some of the teachers are hard to get by due to their strict rules in their classrooms, students fail to realize that communication is key. A teacher is not going to help you raise your grade if you never ask for help, hence why the expression “A closed mouth doesn’t get fed” applies to these scenarios. Teachers at this school, for the most part, are easily approachable and understanding. Many times, (Parent’s, I’m talking to you now) you never realize that your child’s misbehavior is costing them their grades. Instead of sitting here and ranting about what the faculty and teachers “say” to your kid, take the time to set up a parent teacher conference. That’s why they’re there. With everything that I have just said, this school is definitely one of the golden charms in Homestead. They have improved by adding new activities, engaging students, and giving them opportunities to have fun in their classes. (Let us not forget our award-winning competitive sport and academic teams.) So before you just make your decision based on some of these senseless reviews, try and actually give this school a chance.
I had to come here for a year and let me tell you… This is not a school for everybody. I felt left out 100% of the time I walked in. The only help I received was a schedule change. An example of no help is when I asked for an online class and they refused to give it to me. Mind you I always got A’s my final grades are also all A’s. Student body is not the best. Wouldn’t recommend for students who care about school and want to achieve something. Another thing there is smoking at this school, I’m talking about bathrooms and even in classes at times. Instead of enjoying my last year of middle school… I was really just waiting for it to be over. The teachers are good, they just need to teach better and give the students more of a challenge. If it wasn’t for a friend I had coming with me I wouldn’t had gotten a single someone to talk to. I left this school with nothing new. Just felt like whenever I was there it was pointless. School is very dis-organized…. there were holes in walls, bathrooms being shut down, broken basketball hoop stands, holes in walls, and even leaks in walls. If your planing on coming here and you strive in school and care about it dearly let this be your last option. Not everybody has the same experience but I did. I want to like my school, I want to have a challenge to get good grades, I want opportunities, I want a student body who I can talk to, I wanted a good experience. But after this year I have left the school and will start high school somewhere else. Finally, I did not enjoy this school and will not recommend. This is me just keeping it simple…
This school has some pretty good teachers, who will help you with your assignments if you ask. However, others may not be as friendly. They may get really angry or annoying just because you ask for a bit of help. One slight wrong thing, like even being late to the class for 1 MINUTE, can cause you to need to get detention. The bathrooms are a problem. There is always a small amount of soap, while the bathrooms are clogged, and most of the time not flushed for that reason. When you flush, the bathroom paper won’t go through. There are some times that their will be a occasional fight between students. I have heard many students call others names to bother them. Many students behave badly and show poor respect to their peers and teachers. Some students, while walking in the hallways, will knock on a random teacher’s door then run. The food occasionally is good, while other times aren’t the best. Most of the time, there is just WAY to much grease and it’s just horrible! I have even heard of cases where boys will do inappropriate things to girls. If you care alot about COVID-19, you may want to know that this school barely social distance. The teachers don’t even remind. Yes, masks are in use and the most teachers will remind the kids, but other teachers let it slide. Overall, this school wouldn’t be recommended by me if you simply want to learn.
