This school changed my autie’s life. While I now know there are no limits to what he can achieve, I was quite desperate when I first called Veronica at Promised Land Academy to see if her program would accept his Mcakay Scholarship. My son was a non-verbal 1st grader who was being abused in the public school system. Although the abuse was my catalyst to seek private education, he had fallen behind his cohort in every subject. His teacher had stopped challenging him. It seemed as if he had been type-casted and determined to be less than capable of ever being at candidate of mainstream education at the age of 6. My son is a gentle, kind, and well meaning child. He was so badly misunderstood in his previous educational setting that he would have melt-downs. Within one year at Promised Land Academy, his melt downs had become a distant memory and, by his second year, he had caught up with his cohort in every subject. My son is now walking into the 4th grade as a straight A student in every subject. He has the emotional, social, and educational skills to learn in any mainstream classroom in America. He has a closer relationship with God, his community, and himself. Every employee and student at this school has touched my families life, but his administrator, Ms. Veronica, and his teachers, Ms. Michelle, and Ms. Diaz, will always hold a special place in our hearts. The education at Promised Land is the opportunity of a lifetime!
My daughter Jadalynn was in public school until 4th grade. I transferred her to Promised Land Academy with the help of the McKay scholarship after not seeing any educational progress in 3rd and 4th grade. It was like she plateaued, a term doctors warn us about. Public school also refused to allow therapies during school hours which blew my mind since that’s the time when the kids need it the most. Promised Land, changed everything. My daughter reads, does math, does all kinds of therapies at school and in aftercare that was never possible before with public school. The school is worth every penny and it isnt even that expensive. Best decision I have made for Jada. Mrs. Veronica, Mrs. Slendie, Mrs. Freer, Mrs. Brown…therapists Karen, Cythia, Samantha, Leslie, Dunia and Mrs. Peggy from the horse ranch thank you for changing Jada’s expected outcomes and increasing her educational level and independence. for parents considering PLA, You wont regret bringing your child here, everyone here is like a family.
As a seasoned therapist, I’ve had the opportunity to practice Speech Pathology in a multitude of schools for children with special needs. Promised Land Academy exemplifies the meaning of individual-based learning, social-emotional support, and a family-like environment with emphasis on Christian beliefs. Each teacher, staff member, and therapist cater their lessons/therapy to the individual child with love and care. The child is provided with daily support to meet all their academic and emotional needs. Year after year, the school’s philosophy creates a love for learning as it is evident in each child’s daily demeanor. Overall, Promised Land Academy guarantees that your child will succeed!
