We have been pleased with our experience at Slade. I find staff to be responsive and welcoming and the teachers are enthusiastic and experienced. The emphasis on values helps to set the tone for a respectful classroom where the children are ready and excited about learning. My child has about 20 kids in the class with one teacher and a teaching assistant. I think this is a good ratio conducive to managing a classroom and offering some opportunities for individual attention. I give credit to principal Alexa Cox and her leadership team. They seem to be at every event and their pride for the school is evident. I appreciate their vision in further infusing a strong STEM focus in the curriculum. My child will certainly benefit from the new makerspace/computer lab. The tuition is an attractive price point than other private schools in Anne Arundel County. But it’s really the innovative curriculum, wide range of activities and warm school community that should encourage families to give Slade more consideration for their child’s elementary and middle school education.
Not a fan at all this year. Did not like the Pre-K 4 being in the big school. Had asked questions prior to my child’s start and assumed they would be followed. They were not. My child had several accidents at school and when asked what happened got different stories from different people. Volunteered in class and saw first hand that 20 kids between 2 teachers was way to much to handle. PreK 3 was great in the little school but after our experience in the big school I enrolled my child in a different Private School. Also felt it was ridiculous that the full day PreK 4 did not receive any type of refund but PreK 2 and 3 did. Based on the part vs Full time you were paying for babysitting the second half of the day.
We have only great things to say about MSCS! My daughter is a middle schooler. She loves MSCS. I would like to draw attention to Mr Osment, the band director, His dedication to his musicians is nonpareil. During this time of distant learning, he sends weekly lessons with written and video directions. My daughter becomes absorbed in these lessons. Most days, she practices double the time required. Mr Osment directs and inspires his musician to great heights. There are none better than he.
