My child was a kindergarten student there. In my opinion, Athlos is terrible. It looked like this would be a great place for learning, considering it is a charter school. Yes, as someone said, it is fenced in. They don’t want you to see what goes on with your child in that school. But I do understand. Many of the staff members are kids themselves. The way some of the female staff members dress is ridiculous, with tight clothes. One thing they’re good at is blaming the kids for their failures. If this is a good place to learn, I wonder why people are taking their kids out all through the year. Don’t take my word. Rating them with 1 star is giving them way more than they deserve. Your kid will definitely get plenty of time on the playground, even in temperatures below zero. Rain, sleet, or snow, they’ll go outside. Try telling these “educated” people you don’t want your child to go outside because it’s too cold, they’ll come up with a reason to justify making them go outside anyway. Go ahead. Take your kid there so they can learn vulgar language from the other children. It’s okay. I’ve heard the children curse. No consequences. It’s okay. There’s bullying going on. It’s okay. A kid spit in my child’s face. No call, nothing. Nothing was done about it. So to me it seems as though bullies are well-protected. Go ahead if you don’t care and take your kid there. Don’t say no one told you. Let the pretty building fool you. It’s okay. My child came home and told me about a lady named Ms. Cremers that would come in and sit with my child during class. I looked her up and found out that she was the school’s social worker. I was not informed at all that this was happening or that there was a need for this. Of course nothing came out of it. But this is the game you will go through at Athlos. No transparency with you, as a parent, working hard to shut you out. Look here. Go ahead. Take your child there and see what you come up with. I did this to make sure that the truth was put out there. If you have no choice or have little expectations, then Athlos is the place. Furthermore, if you are really a concerned parent and have gone through things at Athlos, post what goes on there. Don’t leave other parents believing they’re really getting something. If some of the staff was 1% more professional than the building’s appearance, I would have given Athlos another star.
My son goes to this school. Every day I call to let them know where my child goes. I got off work yesterday at 5 and go to kids stop to get my child to be informed he wasnt there!!!! Its a traumatizing experience to feel that feeling! So that means my son got sent on the bus and was home alone while I was at work!!! Luckily, I left my door unlocked that day. I live in town. So many things could have happened. Kidnapping, a terrified child roaming the streets not knowing what to do, getting cold due to the weather, ect. So anyways I call to speak to the director and did get told sorry multiple times and talking to staff. Although he was nice on the phone I didnt feel like I could hear actual sympathy. I felt I was treated like another mom complaining. My child could have been hurt and scared. Anyways, I got explained how the end of the day works. The kids get told where they go and are divided into those groups into different classrooms. I ask my child about it and there isnt even a teacher that walks them down to kids stop! So I was told it was logged for him to go to kids stop but the teacher must not have noticed he went to bus. The teacher is responsible for another half of a different class as well! That is a lot of kids to have to manage on your own and it isnt right. If thats the case they need more staff. This is unacceptable on so many levels. My goal is to get this changed! This should never happen! What if we were in negative temps and my door was locked?! They should be taking this very seriously. They could get in BIG trouble. I may be saving a kid right now by telling the story. It may be time for me to switch schools while striving to make a change at this one :/
If you have a child who is special needs of any sort whether it’s just a little disobedient or has add or in need of an iep stay away from this school. It has been 1 and a half years at this school and I have never ever been so disappointed in a school and teachers before. Every little incident they choose to suspend or send my kid home. We have had countless meetings with people at this school and they just refuse to follow through on anything we either come up with or they dont even follow through on things they themselves come up with. This school is a such a joke it’s not even funny I would never ever reccomend this school to anyone
