This place is just absolutely terrible. Please do not work here and do not send your children here! This school used to be great, but has terrible and unprofessional people in power today. The elementary campus may be great, but the secondary campus is crumbling under lazy administration and corrupt power. They yell at children and faculty in order to get results. I have seen many great teachers leave this school or be driven out of this school because of mismanagement. I chose to take my kids out of this charter school because honestly, this school is very far from where it was when my children started In kindergarten. This school recently dropped to a C rating according to NC report cards. Gaston county schools are better than this place and a better long term solution to your academic needs. Piedmont tried to shut the high school down three years ago. Who knows how long it could be until this very same situation occurs. My children told me that many students leave this school to find better opportunities in public high schools in the area because Piedmont lacks AP courses and can’t fit required coursework into student schedules. As a parent I had to do what was best for my children and put my kids back into Gaston County schools. They have better teachers, better administration and more opportunities for academic success.
This is our second year at Piedmont Community Charter. Students in 4th grade at Piedmont Community Charter do the same work as 6th graders in Gaston County schools. Both of our girls love to sing and they have the opportunity at both campuses to perform with excellent teachers. I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know the staff. The teacher’s my girls have update their webpage every Sunday with the weekly agenda. I love the phone calls we get on Sunday nights to inform parents of the weekly activities. They welcome parents to come and volunteer at different school events. Every year they have an Arts festival that the students get to show what they have been working on in class. They have a variety of clubs that students can join.
My children have been here for 8 years and I have one at each campus. I feel safe for my children at all times. There are several policies implemented in order to protect them. Academically, they are exposed to two curriculums, the state and Core Knowledge. Our dinner conversations are so deep because my 8 year is talking about the War of 1812 or my 12 year old is discussing Ancient Egypt. Both of my girls have continued to grow academically through out their school career. The administrators consistently have the children first in every decision they make. All of them strive to make this school the best experience for each child. I love PCCS.
