Bad BLS class! In my opinion there are better options out there. I did it with them because they offered a blended course meaning book work at home and hands on at Daland’s. When I signed up it took them 3 days to provide me online access to American Red Cross to do the book work part of the class. Then I get an email that has me sign up to their system called wyzed which is their online system. I was confused? On the day of the hands on I show up and state I was there to do a BLS class. The front desk lady just said ok and didn’t say anything else. So I asked where should I wait. Sabrina 10 minutes later came to get me takes me to an area where there at least 19 more people doing a life guard class. Waiting 20 more minutes still haven’t started my hands on training which I am there for. Finally they say ok everyone go to the back we are going to do hands on. Huh? They blended 27 people to do hands on with at least two different courses, could have been more. They only had 5 adult manikins and 5 baby manikins for 27 people. The American Red Cross states that you need 1 manikin per 3 people! During the practical one of the manikins breaks they manage to put it back together and keep going. Furthermore the American Red Cross requires manikins to be wiped off after each participant with a disinfectant wipe. This did not happen. I have taken prior course and needed this bls course. I have another cpr certification through the Red Cross and feel competent with my skills. In my opinion if you had taken this class and it was your first class then I do not think you would have recieve all the hands on skills you need to be competent to do the procedure in a real life scenario. Furthermore they had us do some book work through their wyzed system. Why? Who knows because we already did it through the American Red Cross website! Some of the people didn’t even receive the wyzed email from the school. Overall not a good experience. I cannot speak for their other classes but as far as BLS. PLEASE THINK TWICE!
This swim school is a true gem, especially for Special Needs students like my young adult son. The instructors are very knowledgeable and kind. There are many young children, but also adults and teens. The pool is heated all year and during the winter there are heated clear plastic tents by the pool. All the instructors are gentle and patient. My son especially loves Leslie who is like a swim coach wizard with him. Since he has severe neurological issues, it is wonderful to see him respond to all the encouragement and master some movements that are very difficult for him to execute. Our three lessons a week are the highlight of weekly activities for my son. Many service providers who teach those with special needs folks can be rigid in their techniques and pay little attention to the student’s actual capabilities and needs. I found none of this arrogance at Daland. They listen, they truly care and the work with your child based on where his or her needs actually are, versus some prefabricated protocol that assumes what the student’s skill levels must be. I would highly recommend Daland for water safety, exercise and swimming skills.
We have been very happy with Daland swim school! It was initially the only place we could find that was open during covid and we were a little hesitant because of the cost and drive (30 minutes away for us) BUT after our experience we have determined that it is 100% worth it. My 4 year old daughter has a strong will and also some anxiety in the water. As you can imagine that is a hard combo to handle. She was not making progress with her initial instructor and the owner Leslie took the time to deal with some very difficult behaviors from my kiddo and made sure that we knew they put safety and customers first, even over their own compensation. My kiddo initially dreaded going but after her experience with Leslie she now looks forward to it and asks us daily if it’s swim day. She continues to make slow and steady progress. The environment is clean, safe and encouraging so we will not be going anywhere else. Thankful for this swim school and their passion, and commitment to help little swimmers have a fun, safe experience with water!
