I genuinely love this school so much. I am extremely thankful that I have this opportunity. I see the reviews stating that the workload is too much, as being unfair, as that is what students were getting themselves into to begin with when applying. This is a rigorous school, and that is not a bad thing at all. The staff here is extremely kind, all of them. I have no teachers that I can speak very negatively about at all. Staff is very supportive of students in every way that they can. And not only teachers, but students, seem genuinely engaged and passionate about what this school is pursuing. I love this community but this school is not for everyone. We’ve had so many dropouts already this year, mostly people not anticipating the amount of work and the acceleration of such simple courses compared to the typical public high school. IA has a college like feel to it, and it can be a lot for someone coming straight out of middle school. But for some, this is just the kind of school they need. It is absolutely NOTHING like the typical high school like Centennial or Roswell High. You have to really care at this school, if you don’t give it your all and you slump off, that’s a you problem, and you’re going to look silly. There’s not very many slumps that make it here, and they’re really just annoying.
This school has amazing opportunities for it’s students. The facilities resemble more of what I would come to expect from a top tier college. Their simulation centers, while not yet fully stocked, have hands on options for engineering, game design, robotics, mechanization, EMT, surgical lab, nursing lab, internet of things, and a variety of collaboration and maker spaces to encourage innovation and collaboration. I am so excited to see the first set of engagements that go through the school, and what these kids will be able to do with this knowledge!
This school is amazing, for the right student. Just because it is public doesnt mean it is going to be easy. The school offers a more modern and different way of learning, so if your student needs the traditional school environment, this may not be for them.
