I am beyond fed up with Clovis Unified Student Service. My son has a disability and is the 1st grade, his home school was Valley Oak which since the beginning of school I’ve lived with my parents across the street, which let him attend this school. The only daycare was KidsKare River Park that picked up at that school. Now my parents are older and I was living with them due to them needing help w/their health. To take the load off me they got someone to come in Friday thru Sunday so I could have a life. I decided to get an appointment of my own 3 blocks down off of Cedar/Teague which made my place Fort Washington School District. When I moved I didn’t tell anyone due to the daycare only picking up at his school and no other school not even at Fort Washington. So being a single parent that was one of the main issues I didn’t say anything, plus my parents living across the street and my son being on an IEP. Regardless my son mentioned something to the teachers or staff about us moving (which we stay at my place Fri/Sat/Sun and Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs at my parents directly across from Valley Oak). They turned me into the attendance where they showed up at my parents telling my mom they knew I didn’t live there etc…well I called the attendance officer where I was honest with him explaining why I didn’t tell anyone being that my sons daycare only picked up at Valley Oak, Parents living across the street and I didn’t think it was a big deal only being 3 blocks away, plus my son being on an IEP. After that I had to get a intro transfer to keep him at Valley Oak being told I’d have a decision in 2 weeks.
Well fast forward 2 weeks past I call Student Services to find out what the status was of the transfer only to be told I have to move my son out of Valley Oak and put him in Fort Washington as he’s been now placed on the wait list for Valley Oak. This is absolutely frustrating because yes I moved 3 blocks down, my parents are across the street still in Valley Oak district and his daycare picks up at that school and no other school plus my son is on an IEP where all his educational services are set up at Valley Oak. What a shame to move a child on an IEP with only 2 1/2 months left of school, on an IEP that will need to be re-evaluated and my son go without his education help. Yes I should have been honest but being a single mom I saw the 2 challenges I faced…but regardless whoever denied my transfer you should be ashamed of yourself by moving a child on an IEP….and as for the teachers who turned this situation into attendance, next time check with the parents of the child and ask what’s going on rather then jump the gun. I get the school district is realigning the boundaries but only 2 1/2 months left you uproot a child of special needs…so wrong….
Shame on you Clovis Unified School District and Students Service for doing this. You guys have me backed into a corner where due to no daycare transportation I may end up losing my job because of this stupid move. I have called every daycare known to mothers and absolutely no pick up from his school available….and with my parents being elderly it’s extremely hard for them to help me…so as a single mom I believe you guys should need to evaluate things better especially when there’s only 2 1/2 months left of school. You guys didn’t give a DAMN about my child being on an IEP and losing service until his IEP is reviewed by the new school. You guys didn’t give a DAMN about my son not having services and it impacting my son’s learning as he struggles with learning.
Very disappointed in Clovis schools. The ladies in the office try to be enforcers. Gave my employee a form it was filled out correctly, then wanted a handwritten document which is not a legal document for a student who has been going to there schools for years. I have found a lot of prejudice in this office. Asking for documents not needed. If you give a form from your office and it is filled out that is all that you need.
I’ve always appreciated the continued contact & help they’ve given me through this tough time of the “unknowing” with the coronavirus pandemic. My sons in the sdc program & they are beyond phenomenal when it comes to meeting his needs. Can’t wait for him to get back into class but for now I’ll just have to zoom meet with, what I call, all his “villagers.”
