This school is terrible. Does not want the very best of student only smart enough so they cannot leave the school for a better school. They target the kids that actually have high intelligence and pressure them and treat them like terrible kids. The teachers are very immature and really can’t do anything but yell at you when you talk. The teachers only teach well when you are so behind you might ruin their overall school scores. They also have treated me terribly, they once held me in the office to miss class and wait there for over 3 hours for my mom to come. They interrogated me before and make me feel so violated. They have bias against whoever does not kiss up to the school. Do not believe all these other reviews of how good the school is because if it was really good it would teach the people how to spell. Do not go here for 7th or 8 grade, go to an academic center.
As writing as a former student, I can say that Andrew Jackson is one of the best K-8 public schools in Chicago. With diverse classes, both culture and languages are learned, as well as a very academic focus. Languages are taught from the first week of Kindergarten to the last week of Eighth Grade, with friendly staff and teachers. Contrary to what other posts say (which are likely to be students with a grudge towards the school or teacher’s), Andrew Jackson is a wonderful school, and I hope it continues to educate students for years to come.
Our daughter has been at AJLA for a year now, and despite all the challenges of the pandemic, we’ve quite enjoyed it. I know we’re missing a lot because of the remote/hybrid nature of things, but we feel a strong sense of community and many teachers and school administrators who care so much. We absolutely love the diversity of this school—the student body reflects a wide range of people and families from all over the city.
