The school is great. Teachers really care about the students. The school principal is amazing and runs a tight ship. She works long hours and stresses good behavior, citizenship and a culture of caring as well as pushing for the highest possible standards for the children to reach academically. You will not find a better staff or system of teaching in any other school in south Florida. They are the only South Florida school set up with a market place system of teaching and teaching under the system of Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. This system utilizes each individual student’s strengths for learning:
Linguistic intelligence (“word smart”)
•Logical-mathematical intelligence (“number/reasoning smart”)
•Spatial intelligence (“picture smart”)
•Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence (“body smart”)
•Musical intelligence (“music smart”)
•Interpersonal intelligence (“people smart”)
•Intrapersonal intelligence (“self smart”)
•Naturalist intelligence (“nature smart”)
This system insured each child is taught in a way that is harmonious with how their minds work and encourage creativity and the child reaches their full potential in math, reading, etc… By teaching them in methods the child will grasp fastest.
The market place system allows children (in addition to daily learning and preparation for testing) to participate in a life like community within the school. They hold jobs, they make money, they pay taxes, they are rewarded for working and good behavior with the “bulldog bucks” so they may make purchases and pay for field trips to encouraging positive behavior, respect and hard work. When children are rude, break school rules, have negative behavior they get tickets so they have to go to court and sit in front of a jury of piers and the school principal is the judge and children receive warnings or pay fines. As a result you have children that understand real world concepts of making purchase, and earning money, paying taxes, donating money to the poor and the court system in the market place teaches them consequences for negative behavior. It has resulted in a culture of children in the school that care for each other and that are polite, respectful and well behaved. Good old fashion principals of good behavior that is refreshing as most kids in schools these days lack the respect and behavior they should be taught in public schools. If I volunteer in the school I have doors opened for me by the kids and the kids all know to greet visitors with a friendly welcoming comment. An amazing concept that more schools should adapt. The principal has worked long hard hours to implement this amazing system and the results show in the quality of students attending the school.
Absolutely amazing school!!!! I feel so blessed to have found it for my daughter. Her social skills have developed so much in the 2 years she has attended and not to mention the teachers and principal (Dr. Kay) are excellent. Very communicative and loving. Weekly and Daily communication with families. They emphasize real world values that much of todays society lacks. Their “Marketplace” is an excellent way for the kids to learn to work and save money and they also have a ticket system and go to “court” when they break rules. Would recommend it to anyone looking to better the quality of their childs education.
The absolute best school EVER. The best principical without a doubt. She creates an environment where children are excited to learn and enthusiastic to participate in really creative ways of learning. The teachers are spectacular and genuinely care about every child’s well being. I can and will recommend this school to anyone that asks with rave reviews. I wish my kids could stay there forever.
