This is a terrible school for your special needs child. If want your child to actually get an education, develop academically, and be prepared to move on to post-secondary college, university, or trade school this is not the place for you. This school places children with autism at a great disadvantage. It has a redundant and undemanding curriculum that does not encourage the potential of these children. This school’s primary interest is not the growth and development of the students, but only in securing their state funding benefits. My child attended this school for many years and the last 3 years of attendance was a complete waste of time. Nothing was ever taught and nothing was ever learned. For example, he had straight As in math and he was excelling, but when put to practice he struggles with Algebra when he is at an age to go to college. We were lied to by the teachers and staff about the quality of the academics and what they were actually teaching. If you want your child to stagnate and be babysat for 7 hours a day this place is qualified. If you want your child to attend a school that is going get them to learn and receive a genuine education, this is not the school where that has any chance of happening.
My daughter has being g attending this school for 5 years. She is in the moderate spectrum and kind of nonverbal. She knows how to talk and can not keep a conversation. Academically and what they are teaching my daughter, I still believe it works for her. She gets trained with some job skills that mostly boys do because they are more on the spectrum. Recently I had a bad experience when I asked how do they choose their kids to attend camp. My daughter attended for 3 years and this time she got the letter that she was not selected. I asked if there was a policy for that and there is not. I understand the staffing issue for camp but none could explain to me how they selected the kids. I am afraid they are stamping my child with some classification since I have not seen a policy in writing.
Love AAED! My son is in his 5th year with this school. The teachers and staff have been wonderful. My son has grown from a quiet, shy kiddo to one who enjoys participating in class, and has made many friends. It has been amazing watching him progress with reading, writing, and math. I also love how their Parent Partnership Program (P3)/PTO knows that these kids work so hard everyday at school and with outside therapies, that they put on fun events for the kids to enjoy. So, if you are on the fence on where to send your child for school, give AAED a try!! I AM SO GLAD I DID!!!
