I took my child out of Ben Franklin Elementary when we move two block from Cesar Chavez Academy. I made the terrible mistake of assuming two schools in the same district would be comparable. The second week of school my fourth grade daughter, who test above fifth grade reading level on AR, was told that she could only check out 3rd and 4th grade books. I spoke to the teacher and the library clerk and told them that I expected her to read above the 4th grade. Today, five weeks in, she was told expressly that she can’t read 5th or 6th or 7th grade books and came home with a 4th grade book.

The second week of school half of one 4th grade class was suspended for fighting.

In my daughter’s class, the kids talk, pass notes, and go on “dare dates” whatever that is. It stirs up trouble is all I know.

I am incredibly disappointed with this school. I’m seriously considering homeschooling.

A day one Thunder Bird here. Growing up I watched this school get built from an empty dirt lot up to its current foundation. The school has greatly expanded in size to accommodate more students with more classrooms for K to 8 & continues to maintain two large grass track fields, multiple basketball courts & playground equipment. The size of it all is astonishing & the whole property is kept maintained & clean. From a retrospective point of view, I am proud to say that this was my elementary school, and it’s wonderful to see how it’s improved for the current students.
Assistant Principal told a student not to hang out with my daughter because she was a bad influence. What kind of teaching professionals would speak of their students in this manner? Not the best school and teachers are a bit unprofessional and over the top at times. They do not listen to students and like to cover up situations with principle sayings it’s been taken care of..
