Our child started attending Shady Lane School as the first time outside-the-home for care and education. We were understandably nervous, this being our only child and first time selecting a preschool. What followed was an amazing year of growth and learning and we have never been happier about a choice we’ve made. Shady Lane is a clean and friendly place where kids can feel welcome and involved. We’ve moved to the other side of town in preparation for starting kindergarten in the fall and I can’t help but find the new childcare offerings lacking in comparison. The staff at Shady Lane is a close and friendly group of specialists who sent us an email full of pictures every day. The fenced outdoor playground has just had a major renovations. The location is really convenient for dropping off en route to downtown, Oakland and the rest of central Pittsburgh. It was a 15 minute drive from Lawrenceville each morning. I could drop off with smiling faces on the way to work then on my way home be greeted by a caregiver with news about my child’s day. Shady Lane has recently received high-ranking by a state authority.
You can feel safe with your child here and they will have good experiences with people who want to work with children. I’ll miss Shady Lane and can’t recommend it enough! If it’s an option you’re considering, please go have a visit!
My first experience with my first child (daughter ) was good.My children are seven years apart . That being said that this new group of directors and teachers were not at best interest when it came to my son becoming prepared for kindergarten. My son is black and he apparently has all odds against him in this world of ours. So, I wanted him to be successful starting at Shady lane “School”. My son will be turning 5 next month and he is nowhere prepared for kindergarten. I had a former teacher evaluate him at the school in fall of 2018. My son could not even hold a pencil correctly, didn’t recognize the alphabet, many numbers, or some shapes . I had faith in the school hence my daughter attending years ago. So , I didn’t think to question their ability to get my son together. After having concerns , both the teachers and directors started to treat my son different. They started to single him out and become very unprofessional. Long story short they unjustly Kicked my son out because of my concerns about him learning. I had a conversation with the teachers because of a rude invalid email that they sent. The teachers were very unprofessional and told me that i should have told them how to teach him. They continue to state that they are a play based learning school, but where does the learning take hold?
We love Ms.Amanda and Ms.Quincy. They are so nice and kind to the kids and giving much love to this kids as the kids will remember them forever. My child was very happy since she was in Indigo room. After her transition to the Pink class as her teacher was so strict, so serious and very controlling she started having stress and anxiety and developed different habits that she never did like holding very tinny objects for the whole day and being scared of that teacher plus biting her hands while sleeping. I noticed these change everyday after her transition to the new class. I hope this comment help some family to decide where should they put their kids. I dont say teachers were bad. They are all so nice but I think kids needs more love and freedom plus needs to see happy faces instead of being controlled and seeing their teachers serious all the time. I found most of those kids didnt like to be in that class and didnt adapt even after four months. My kid was 20 months though.
