I have a Grievance report to make. The main girl Chanel was so rude to others. I am from Salinas California and I drove to Fairfield at Qual ED to take my written CNA state test. Credentia asked us to arrive 30 minutes early to prepare for the test, so I did. My scheduled test was at 8:00am and I arrived at 7:30am. The doors did NOT open until 8:45am.
Upon entering the building and sitting down waiting for our tests to get handed to us.
There was a bathroom line starting to form and the teacher yells “we are not going to have a line to the bathroom, that’s what we’re not going to do.” And showed everyone to their seats, telling them to sit down and wait their turn that way. I don’t think she realized how long some of us HAD TO WAIT OUTSIDE.
After this, One of the first things the teacher says is “We have the right to refuse service.” After multiple people including myself, had just waited 2 hours for the doors to open. This was not an appropriate way to approach students who are eager to take a test and have been waiting for hours.
Everyone seemed shocked because of how rude the main teacher was and how inconsiderate she was being. She was on a power trip.
During the test, we had little to no supervision. For a state test I would think that we would take the test in-front of a teacher or person in charge, but the person in charge was wandering around the entire time.
Our duration of the test was about 2 hours, I expected someone to sit there and watch us the entire time but the woman in charge was all over the place.
Anything could have happened to those tests during those times the teacher was wandering.
Anyone could have done whatever they wanted while the teacher was wandering but LUCKILY everyone stayed faithful to the test and I saw no one cheating.
This woman was polite to me because I had everything in order, however she was rude to others and I did not appreciate that. Us students were all there for the same reason, to be health care providers, but the way we were spoken to by that woman was inappropriate and out of line.
Also QUAL ED IS LOCATED NEXT TO A GYM. There was VERY loud and inappropriate music playing DURING our test. The teacher in charge mentioned that the music would stop during the test and it would eventually turn off but that wasn’t the case. Thankfully, I passed my test, but I was very much distracted by the music, shaking the walls. I had to cover my ear to focus on my test that I had to read.
This was not the testing experience I expected at all. It was unprofessional.
I just finished my skills exam today at Qual-Ed! The process was very straightforward. The supervisors/proctors were stern, but maintained good professionalism. I believe most of the “strictness” people were describing was to help get the system moving efficiently and quickly. As long as you watch and listen for directions, you will be okay! The staff I met wanted us to pass.
Doors open at 08:45, so I would suggest coming at around 08:35-08:40 or so if your test time is at 09:00(to save you 10 minutes of waiting outside). We were immediately guided to stand in line in front of the door and show our signed IDs before being led inside of the building. The building itself was quite clean and well maintained. We signed in, and headed straight towards the skills room, where there was a long table to place your belongings. The waiting section was located in the skills room, but blocked off with panels. We were not allowed to use our phones, take out our notes, or eat/drink. Before starting, Chanel told us that we were able to use the restroom (which was located in the skills room, by the way) at any point while waiting. We were also instructed not to watch people perform their skills (which could be anxiety inducing for the ones testing). I found that the waiting time was a good opportunity to quietly go over skills in my head, though it was a little hard to concentrate with the really loud music playing next door. I was lucky to be chosen quite early in the process to perform my skills, and even then it was around 10:45 AM. Veronica, the proctor led me and my partner through the skills testing process and I thought she was very clear and thorough with her instructions. After doing all of our skills, my partner and I both grabbed our belongings and were congratulated by Chanel!
Overall, I had a good experience here.
Tips for the skills exam: find a good playlist of all of the skills on YouTube and imagine yourself going through the process! Make sure that the skills pertain to NorCal testing requirements. Bring your IDs and listen carefully to the staff’s instructions!
I have been a can for many years, and was out of work within the last year recovering from a neurological condition, and brain injury and came to your facility to renew my license. I came very prepared knowing my circumstances, and have never been treated with such disrespect from my evaluator Sonya will trying to complete my skills. For every step for each skills she had an opinion about it, and here are some examples.

One of my skills was catheter care and I accidentally forgot to dispose one of the dirty linens after “washing my hands,” and putting on new gloves. I was trying to correct my mistake, and she made me pull out the dirty gloves from the trash can, and told me I was changing my gloves to often.. Not only was this completely unsanitary, but unacceptable never would this be okay especially when providing catheter care. (I was taught in school to change your gloves, and wash your hands as often as you can.)

Another example is that I was taking blood pressure, and Sonya told me I couldn’t place the reader on the blood pressure cuff because that would hurt the patient..so she made me place it on the table… My teacher (RN) in school years ago had no issue with us placing it there.

After that she continued to drill me about every step, and then have the audacity to tell me I didn’t have a lot of time left… (due to her stopping me, for things I wasn’t doing wrong.)
She behaved with intimidation, discriminatory and appeared to be on a complete power trip. I felt like she was setting me up for failure. It was the worst experience I have ever been through with testing, and it felt very unfair. Never once was I shown one ounce of dignity or respect from her. Not only was she treating me this way, but she was treating my partner this way.

I reached out to the director, and she was very understanding, and apologetic. I did pass, but she will be reported to CDPH. Do not waste your time going here.
