For the most part the school seemed like it was just a place for veterans to go so they could yell at helpless children to feed there egos. I didn’t see many students improve here. A lot of the staff I did look up to ended up leaving. In theory the structure the school brings to students could be beneficial but unfortunately the way they rank kids and give them authority seemed like a gratified popularity contest. On one occasion they would not let me eat lunch as a punishment. The name Willamette Leadership Academy is ironic considering the leadership here is so toxic. Keep in mind I went here like 7 years ago but I hear it’s gotten even worse , I can’t imagine!
Willamette Leadership Academy (WLA) is a unique school with an amazing staff and military style program model. WLA Cadets are held to high expectations regarding academics, behavior and social/emotional wellness. This school truly teaches the whole child in terms of citizenship. WLA has worked wonders for the children of this community for almost 20 years and the school continues to strive for excellence every single day. I highly recommend this school for students that are falling behind on grades, students with poor attendance and students that need more structure and attention in grades 6-12.
Grandchild sent to this school becuz of behavior issues but these issues only got worst being there she never learned anything. All they do is scream and yell. My grandchild’s issues got so much worst she wond up being in a lock down behavior facility for over 18 months then in group home. Because of this she may never be the person she was meant to be. DON’T SEND YOUR CHILD HERE UNLESS THEY PLAN ON BEING IN THE MILITARY.
Screaming and yelling at home and at school does NOTHING for the child’s self esteem or life in general. HATE HATE HATE
