This learning institution is a poor excuse for a leadership academy. Flaunting blazers and ties is but a mere disguise for the demotivated student atmosphere and lackluster academic rigor. With teachers who meltdown in the middle of the year to constantly shifting science teachers that affect the students education, the only respectable educator would be the PE teacher. I heed warning to not fall prey and send your children to this secondary education facility. Kids in this school do not care about their education and do not contribute in the classroom. The few students who do excel in this institute (like I did) are not challenged to their fullest potential and are at a great disadvantage in college. Not only is there no sport teams, but the lack of extracurricular activities is truly terrifying. The recent addition of a few AP classes does not change the value of this school and I can assure parents that this is not the school that will meet you or your childs needs. I merit my post as a student who was unfortunate enough to attend this poor excuse of a school. If you or your child is seeking academic rigor along with an abundance of extracurricular activities in a diverse and safe setting, this is absolutely NOT the place. I would suggest Mast Academy, New World School of the Arts, DASH, and many other excellent nearby high schools.
This school is not good. Please do not send your child here. Students are not able to use their telephones during breakfast, lunch, even in the hallways. Kids are unable to wear jacket: with hoodies on them. If its raining outside & kids do not have a umbrella, what are they supposed to wear? This school dosent make any sense at all. The food is also disgusting. The school has rodents such as roaches, lizards, raccoons. On Fridays, students should be able to wear the polo shirt with whatever jeans they like just not ripped. And they should be able to wear any sneaker they want since its with a polo shirt.
YMPA is definitely a school I would want my son to go to. From the students to the principal, everyone plays a role and a significant one at that. I take Biology and Geometry, courses that are 2 GRADES above my grade level . The electives are very beneficial. We have a band class, a leadership class, and many more. We also have clubs such as the Interact Club, Chess Club, Green Club. And a very active SGA! I DEFINITELY MADE THE RGHT CHOICE WHEN I APPLIED TO YMPA.
