Mixed feelings so far but so far so good! Daughter came from a french immersion program in Canada which by my surprise had a curriculum which wasn’t as challenging as the one offered at Maya Angelou! Looking forward to the 3rd grade year and supporting this gem of a school to more recognition!

Teachers and education system administrators are just a fraction of what makes a great school systems. PG County, MD schools will continue to suffer until parents are ready and willing to roll up their sleeves and drag their school system to better ratings!

Looking into moving my daughter to another french immersion in the county or private school altogether as she is not being challenged. While I agree that a good grasp on French is important, it shouldn’t detract from the importance of Math, Science!

This school suffers from an obvious lack of diversity (there are many ways to resolve that) as I am reminded of this every couple of weeks since my daughter is a mix of 3 different ethnicity. Very unfortunate especially since she has such a strong character! Looking forward to moving her to another school for a better learning environment!

Also, it really helps to have parents involved in the education of these children. If you aren’t willing nor have the time to help with 1-2 hr worth of hwk, this isn’t the school for you after about 3rd grade! The number of males in classrooms drops significantly after 3rd grade … something to keep in mind!

What a difference! Moved daughter to another French Immersion in PG County and I could immediately tell the difference. Diversity (check), SAFETY (check), non-female dominated classes (check), parental involvement (triple check)!! I’ve reached out to several PGCPS administrator to discuss ways in which private investment could help improve the state of some of the schools. Let’s be frank, PGCPS has decades of work ahead of them so let’s work with them instead of searching for quick solutions for our own children!!

I enjoy everything about the school. Teachers teach & care, administration is supportive, communication is AWEOME, they are preparing by children to be great.
Maya Angelou is the best school a child could ever want to experience. A school of excellence especially the Temple Hills location.
