I have two kids here at Excelsior so I can speak to the infant and toddler care. For two years we have had excellent experiences with the staff, curriculum, facilities, and parent/teacher communication. For infants- they pay attention to details, follow written schedules you provide, and give them a lot of TLC. My daughter went from tolerating 5 seconds of tummy time to sitting up by herself within 2 weeks. She’s stronger, more independent, and loves being around other kids. They really do love the kids. I can see them cuddling the babies through the windows even before I park. For toddlers- wow your kid will learn! My son is turning two in a few weeks and can sing the ABC’s, count 1-10, and loves to read. His face lights up when we ask if he’s ready to go to school. I think it’s setting a good foundation for him to thrive in elementary school.

General things: you will get a million updates throughout the day with pictures included. Building is brand new and clean. Swagged out playground. Lots of family events. Teachers are friendly and well put together. They know all the kids by name because the class sizes are small. Director is transparent and gives it her all. Her background in special Education and trauma-informed care makes me relieved (as I’m a psychologist and look for stuff like that). I’ve personally seen them make accommodations for some of the kids with emotional and learning differences. All of it is in line with best practices.

One thing I will say- it’s truly run like a school, so there are very clear expectations about drop off times, participation in activities, etc. This has worked really well for our family and our children who thrive on schedules. But if it’s not you, I would probably go another route. Oh and your kids will get daycare bugs but that has nothing to do with the cleanliness of the school! It’s just a fact of life if your kids are around other kids. They do a good job at requiring you to be fever free etc before returning.

I’m really glad we found Excelsior. I hope this helps if you are having any reservations about daycare vs nanny vs staying at home 🙂

I’ll definitely have to agree with another parent that the director is very unprofessional and goes on a power trip during times when she should try to de-escalate situations rather than escalate them and deflect. Nothing good to say as customer service should be top tier, which it isn’t at this facility as it pertains to communication with the director about concerns that are brought to her attention. My child was here for 3 weeks; I took her out after a back and forth and very condescending spat with the director. It was a little off-putting hearing stories about previous parents during the tour with the director about why and how she had to “let them go” (i.e. disenroll their child); which my intuition then was telling me to keep my baby where she was. But, I wanted to try something I thought would be better for both my child and I, but boy was I wrong. When I decided my baby wasn’t going back to this facility, I was threatened to hear from her (the director’s) lawyers. But was told by the director in chatting during the tour that she’s let families go and given them their money back; why not give me the same treatment? It’s amazing how children can be disenrolled at anytime, without warning, leaving parents to scramble to try to find care for our babies when daycares today are completely full; but we (parents) can’t disenroll our kids if we feel the facility, or the environment, or the person in charge (which is the case here) isn’t a good fit; regardless of policy or anything that’s been signed. It’s a bit of a double standard. In response to my review, I effectively submitted my disenrollment on October 16th with a response from the director the same day. Taking my kid to a new daycare or back to the one she came from is irrelevant. And not one week in our very short period there did we EVER miss a payment. That is a blatant lie. False negative responses will not make you nor your business look good.
