Just a note for anyone considering where to send their kids in the fall: we moved to Lynbrook when my daughter was turning 2, and even though it’s three short blocks from me, I only found ICNS when a stranger in the library mentioned it to me in passing. What a happy accident! ICNS is truly a community. The teachers are warm, welcoming and patient, which made the initial separation so much easier on both the kids and the parents. The school is cooperative, which I valued because it gave us a chance to be involved and see them in action for those first sweet, fleeting years of school. The school building was formerly a house, and has an oversized yard with swings, a big ship to climb, little houses, bikes, etc. that the kids love. The curriculum is play-based, which we felt was important, and my kids were completely ready for kindergarten academics when they graduated pre-k. The kids still count the friends they made there as their best, and I can say the same of the friends I made of their parents. They still mention their teachers, lessons, trips and activities they did there. Sorry if I went on too long but it’s hard to sum up how wonderful this school is in just a few words!

When I first walked into ICNS at Open House last year, I immediately felt “at home”. I toured several nursery schools and was searching for a nurturing, loving, safe and friendly environment for a 2s program. The huge, fenced in backyard was an added bonus! The teachers are warm and fuzzy and eased my son’s apprehension at drop-off each day. He is now so excited to go to school and his enthusiasm is exuded with the cheerful expression on his face at pick-up. He is so proud of the creative arts and crafts activities he brings home and talks about his fun day with his friends and favorite teachers: Miss Linda, Miss Kelly and Miss Sheila. This made signing him up for the 3s and enrichment program next year a no-brainer!

Initially, I was reluctant to join a cooperative, but it was the best decision I made. The parents I have met through school events and fundraisers have made me feel welcome and part of a close-knit community. I’m very happy I chose this school for my son’s first experience and highly recommend sending your child here. You won’t regret it!

My oldest daughter graduated from the Pre-K class in 2022 and was beyond prepared for Kindergarten, she started in the 3’s program. The school, staff, and friends become family. ICNS is truly that “Little School with a Big Heart”. Currently my daughter is attending (started in the 2’s) and will be in the Pre-K in Sept 2024. I can not wait for her to share the same memories her older sister did. From crafts, lesson, activities, and social interactions I truly feel my daughters are prepared each year while attending ICNS. I highly recommend this school.
