The Lake County School Operations department failed to listen to my concern about a school bus stop was an unsafe stop for the children getting on and off the bus. It took a whole year before the lake county operations department finally deemed the bus stop unsafe. Yes it took a whole year. Meaning the children at this stop were in an unsafe situation for a WHOLE YEAR. The person in charge of the bus lots (the person in-charge of approving or denying a change to any bus stop, his name is Joe) had no remorse for putting our children in an unsafe situation. After i took this to his boss, he only received a verbal warning for putting these kids in an unsafe situation for a year. Four months into this school year 2018-2019, I have been still battling for the lake county operations department to continue to look into the stops being placed in a safe spot for the kids. For the last two months, I have been requesting a meeting with the superintendent about the safety of the bus stops. Diane Kornegay the superintendent refused to meet with me and a few other parents that wanted to voice their concerns. Now if our children’s safety is not TOP PRIORITY to our superintendent, Diane Kornegay, then maybe she should sit down from her position and allow someone to step up who actually has a heart for our children and is able to listen to the concerns of us parents. I have talked with everyone in the operations department, Joe, the bus lot supervisor, Mr. Phender, Joe’s boss, Mr. John Carr, the operations manager, and every single one of them seemed like our children’s safety was a last priority for them. Just very disappointing that the people we are supposed to trust within the school system to care about our children and their safety, just are not doing their job with any heart.
As a mother of an ESE student this district is awful.
The staff is not knowledgeable. The Eustis high administrator Mr Clarke is the worst. The SLP Mrs Woodie is a night mare, she put her hands on my kid and she has no idea about new technology and she refuses to ask for help while your kid will suffer for it. The ESE department was of no help, I went to them and after years of being fed up with no resolution
I had to reach out to Tallahassee for help. Tallahassee reaches back out to the ESE department for them to finally acknowledge my concerns. I even contacted the superintendent Mrs Kornegay twice. Every one asked me why I moved here. They said people don’t move here they move away from here. If I was crazy, now I finally understand. If I only had the money to hire Jameson Jessup, he was ready to go to court. My family would not have suffered as much as we did.
The system is so messed up my sons bus have left him different days i call the transportation line and they don’t even talk when someone calls to bring to their attention something that has happened. I get no results and no response from no one so i’m able to do something about it. Anyone that may be of interest please reach out to me.
