My daughter started daycare at Children’s Academy of Mason on Monday. She was in their care for a total of 3 days.
I checked on her very frequently on the streaming live feed they offer parents as it was her first day ever in daycare, and ever with people she didn’t know. Around 3pm nap time was ending and I WATCHED her class teacher walk over to the cot she was sleeping on and KICK IT!!! Hard enough that the cot slid across the floor!!! That’s how she woke my baby up from a nap… on her first day… ON CAMERA!!!
When I reported it to the center director on Tuesday morning, as they were all already gone when I picked her up on Monday, her response was “I’ve never heard of anything like that happening here, we’ll review the cameras and follow up with you.” Still irritated, but fully expecting them to see the same exact thing I did and terminate the employee. I didn’t get a single phone call, from anyone, but that teacher was not there so I assumed it was being addressed. At the end of the day, I still hadn’t heard from anyone, and happened to check my email. The owner of the daycare had sent an email earlier in the day, with an incident this severe I would think a phone call at the very LEAST would be the appropriate way to follow up with a parent.. but email it is… thanking me a handful of times for reporting the incident, stated that the behavior was inappropriate and that it had been handled, and they were still deciding how to move forward with the teacher. No where did she apologize at all for what my daughter went through, and what I had to witness happen.
I emailed and requested a meeting face to face, which she could not accommodate but stated she would be able to have a call with me. When I picked my daughter up on Tuesday, everyone was gone, again. I constantly had the class stream up on my phone and Wednesday afternoon I saw the same teacher walk in her class!!! At that point I had zero faith that my daughter was in a safe place. I went to pick her up and cleared her cubby out.
I took today off work to find another daycare option for her and also notified the owner that effective immediately she would not be returning. I expressed how extremely inappropriately the entire situation was addressed and that the teacher should certainly have not still been employed, let alone still allowed to work in the class with my daughter. I let her know that I would be contacting local resources to find out what else could be done about this incident. Within MINUTES of sending the email, the owner called and left a voicemail that she wanted to talk and review the cameras and reassure me other than the one incident my daughter had otherwise been well cared for. I didn’t return her call. Within an hour I had an email expressing how sorry she was that I felt this way, and she should have addressed this differently, and she had decided to terminate the teachers employment even though it would put the teacher in a “tough spot.” I do NOT care about the tough spot it will put the teacher in. I am even baffled that she is trying to feel sorry for this teacher that ABUSED and instilled fear in my daughter!!
Maybe don’t mistreat the kids you’re supposed to be taking care of and you’d still have a job?? Maybe don’t wait until you realize that I may be reporting the incident to someone other than you before you handle it the right way and none of this would have happened.
My daughter and every other child in that class safety was pushed to the side by allowing that teacher to come back. How can you expect any parent to feel comfortable with knowing the same person that did this to your baby, on her very first day, while she was sleeping is still allowed to be the person caring for her all day long? It was absolutely the most unacceptable, inappropriate, unprovoked and hateful thing I have ever seen. I just can’t understand AT ALL how someone can run a business taking care of innocent babies, and not put their safety as the biggest and most important priority every single time.
My son came home from school and told me that a teacher was angry and had thrown something at him during nap time.

I’m going to try not to write a book, but include the important information. Ultimately, I had to file a police report.

I called and asked for access to the camera feed from that day, we have live video access so I didn’t think it was an unreasonable request. The assistant director, Rachel, told me it was no problem and I could view the footage. She asked why I wanted to see it. I explained that I understand how kids are, and I’m not trying to make any accusations, and I explained what my son had told me. Rachel told me she would have to speak with the director and the owner (Jeanette) before allowing me to have access.

The owner, Jeanette, called me back and said that if I wanted to view the footage I would need a subpoena. Amidst other things, the conversation was very unpleasant and I completely lost trust in the school because of her management. My husband spoke with her, and he said we would be filing a police report if she didn’t allow us to see it. Jeanette then agreed to let me come in and view the film. (After telling us it would take 4 1/2 hours to view, and other tactics to deter us. It took a half an hour to view the feed at 4X speed)

Over a minute was missing from the footage when the teacher was right next to my son.

When I noticed the huge skip, I decided to file a police report. I feel it’s important to share this to other parents making the decision on child care, and to the police because if there is any possibility that an owner of a school is covering up a short tempered teacher who assaulted a child, then a trail is really important. My children are no longer enrolled and they’re safe, but I’m thinking of all of the other kids in the class. Please see other reviews on Google too, someone else reported something similar.

BEST SCHOOL EVER!!! I seriously cannot say enough good things about this school. I would give more stars if I could. I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 4 month old. Both of them love attending and their teachers are amazing! I actually smile on my way to work every morning knowing for a fact they are in good hands. I’m very picky about who watches my kids. In fact, I have never used a “babysitter” and the only people to watch them outside of daycare are our parents. When I was looking at schools in the Mason/Kings/South Lebanon area, I toured 10 (yes, 10) daycares plus a private home care before I made my final decision at Children’s Academy of Mason. This school filled every one of my qualifications and beyond. Besides for high standards of academics and cleanliness, the convenience to the highway, on-site chef, computer lab, full time preschool and kindergarten, and “specials” everyday. Martial arts, spanish and soccer shots are just some of the my son’s favorite weekly activities that are included in the tuition. The teachers, director and owner know all of the kids by name and always have a smile. I highly recommend this school.
