Compared to my former high school, the curriculum taught at SGHS seemed to be well below average. So, although I was learning, I wasnt being challenged to apply my full potential. The tight-fisted, upper-hand attitude that was shown by the school’s higher-level personnel degraded my sense of respect for their positions. A funny story… I’ll never forget a meeting my parents had with the Assistant Principal. I earned a 5-day suspention for initiating a fist fight with a fellow student. My dad explained to him that I was being bullied the previous day by the girl whom I had punched and was merely defending myself to alleviate any potential problems in the future. Mr. Williamson blatantly displayed his ignorance with a reference to our relocation [from The Wild West] by stating, “…after all, this isn’t Dodge City!” My dad just laughed and said, “We’re from Arizona!” Needless to say, the dumbfounded AP had no response & quickly ended the meeting.
In retrospect, the “NYS School of Excellence” wasnt able to live up to the award, but I was able to graduate with a high enough GPA to earn a scholarship for college.
Except one time I was running in the halls and slipped on a piece of paper that went rogue from the hall walls. Student senate, pls get ur act together.
