My daughter is a Junior at Mainland High. What you have to understand is that at ANY school, there will be unsavory incidents with the kids, because they’re KIDS! As a parent YOU have the power to guide the education experience that your child has. Before my daughter began there, I hadn’t heard good things and was a bit concerned. Unfortunately at the time private school wasn’t an option. There have been a couple (2) of incidents that took place that weren’t pleasant. The first incident took place her freshmen year, when a boy threatened her and called her a name. My husband WENT to the school and spoke with one of the Dean’s (I hate that I forgot his name),. That gentleman resolved the issue VERY thoroughly and efficiently! We never had a major problem like that again. The second incident took place just today. My daughter was scheduled to go on a field trip with her theater class to go see a play. Unfortunately this information had not been relayed to her substitute teacher. Long story short, she refused to let my daughter leave the class (granted, there was some sort of drill going on), but instead of making a call to see if it was ok for my daughter to leave, she threatened my daughter that she would write her up if she left (which my daughter would never do). The end result was my daughter missing the bus for the trip that we PAID for her to go on. Needless to say, my daughter contacted me very disappointed. So I called the school and spoke to Ms. Belatier (please excuse if misspelled). She completely took responsibility for the error and the lack of communication of the staff. She was very apologetic and promised to speak to the sub and the teacher. I got off of the phone feeling satisfied with our interaction. But it doesn’t stop there. She called me back and volunteered to DRIVE my daughter to the play herself and she did just that. I understand that mistakes can be made, after all, WE ARE HUMAN but to me there’s something to be said when someone accepts responsibility and then takes the steps to RECTIFY the problem! So based on MY experience with Mainland High School, I have learned not to judge a book based on the perception of other readers! I hope this helps ?
This is one of the worse schools i personally come into contact with. They take peoples phones working and give them back not working. They have teachers there that throw students out of class for absolutely no reason. When a student requests a class transfer they get denied and whwn the parents get involved and are trying to get a resolution for a problem they are blown off and calls never get returned. Some of the teachers and staff need to be re o laced or go back thru psychology to learn how to deal with students or at least listen to the parents about how to handle teenagers
This school’s an alright school, I enjoyed 9th grade the most out of all to be honest. It’s not the best in any way possible but the school did do something for me although it wasn’t fully capable IMO. I just recently graduated from this school in 2016 and have some memories of the school, some of the staff now are really bad now, they need to retire because they’re just horrible as of now since my freshman year. I disliked the school a lot but I’m glad I’m gone.. Though I’ll have a slight soft spot for it
