For the teachers effort alone especially the English and science only, I would rate it a 5 but the school conditions is what upsets me. The students need an entirely new building. This ‘high school’ is literally in an actual old middleschool building, which causes it to be noticeably over crowded. The library is barely accessible because the students share the staff between other schools. Also, why isn’t there air conditioning? It gets really hot and humid during summer months which makes it hard to focus. The kids at Hamilton work really hard and only get a small portion of the resources other Elizabeth High kids get; it’s really unfortunate. Also did I mention that the intercom system doesn’t work in the gym or auditorium? It’s extremely dangerous in case of a fire, or I don’t know…a few real emergency like a school shooting?! The board of education needs to do a lot less pampering with Frank J Cicarell and a lot more attending to AHPA. I honestly think the students at Hamilton work really hard (#2 rank) however they barely get recognition.
Alas, public schools with remain public, i.e they will always preach your children to be average, they will preach children their own false agendas and conform them towards negative cultures, this one is supposedly one of the top schools of NJ, but not even one student that I know of ended up going to an Ivy League school. The graduated student is the recipient of: a President’s excellence in education award, a citation and commendation from the US Senate and general assembly; ends up going to private school with a so called scholarship that enforces the student to rely on grants and student loans. So much for free education, even the European countries with far less economic values offer better education for their citizens.
Because it is such a competitive school, students are given way too many assignments to complete during the school week and more homework for the weekends, which leaves them little time to pursue any other activities they might be interested in that are essential to their growth and development. And even though we’re learning remotely at the moment, some students don’t get to spend much time with their families because they stay locked up in their bedrooms all day in hopes of maintaining excellent scores for all of their classes.
