At Governor French Academy student’s are required to participate in the school science fair from Form III and Up, it is optional at the Form II level. We would recommend for parents to encourage students to participate in Form II, to gain a better understanding of the expectations and how it can impact their grade. For the last 2 years our son, has only needed us to purchase his supplies and drive him to the library for some of his research material. The first year he participated, his grade was not passing because he nor did we read all of the link provided to understand GFA was following the Illinois Science Fair Rules. By the next year, our son beginning preparing during Christmas break and his projects research paper, project and presentation earned him a Bronze category this year at his academic level.
GFA, also require the students to research and write a 5 page paper. Our son has excelled every year with his subjects , research, and detailed information. GFA, has not only taught our son to think and to apply his thinking to his life today with the hopes to make a positive difference in the world for himself and others.
GFA has also inspired our son to be an athletic competitor, who understand that competition requires discipline plus to value teammates. Our son was so proud to travel with school staff and students to support his GFA Cross-Country teammate, Senior Sarozjani Hunter who was the first athlete from Governor French Academy to compete at the state championship level. Our son has loved running distance since was 4 years old, and it is beautiful to see him continue to enjoy this sport with his peers and coaches. The youngest was one of the first young distance runners for a great local Track Organization, because he was always trying to keep up with older brother who was 10 years older than he when he started running at 4 years old. Now his older brother encourages him while he serves in the United States Air Force.
Governor French Academy is a gem in our family’s eyes because they not only provide a great educational experience, the educators lead example and believe in encouraging students to embrace their strengths. At GFA, our son learned to think, embrace his leadership attributes, he has learned about how his choices or lack their of can affect his academic environment directly or indirectly. Overall, Governor French Academy is helping us to nurture, encourage motivate our child become an empathetic and respectful yet honest hardworking human being who we hope one day will share his talents and gifts with the world to positive difference. Governor French Academy also teaches our son, the importance of higher education and that the cost is not cheap but through the students labor they can reap great rewards and earn valuable scholarship funds to pay for their higher academic goals in the future.
