The staff is abhorrent. The office ladies(namely Cindy and Maggie) have an unwarranted attitude on a daily basis. They are rude, disrespectful, and negative. Not only is the attitude completely unnecessary and in need of an overhaul, but they are terrible at bookkeeping as well. On multiple occasions I had to prove payment for the week with my receipt. Not only was I embarrassed in front of other parents in the sign out area of the office for non-payment, but when I produced my receipt, they didn’t even apologize for their mistake and attitude!
The good teachers(at least the ones that aren’t the owner’s daughter, granddaughter, etc.) are paid minimum wage and are constantly in fear of losing their jobs. They do not pay the teachers overtime and are not sympathetic when teachers have conflicts due to their own family’s illnesses.
This personnel at Lad n’ Lassie does not have any child development training that is current. In one instance, a teacher kept my 4 year old child on timeout in the office for 2 1/2 hours without calling me. When I arrived to pick my child up, he was despondent, refusing to speak or look up at anyone…very unlike him. That was his last day at Lad n’ Lassie. 2 1/2 hour on time out for a four year old for a restroom accident is abusive.
If you are considering putting your child at Lad n’ Lassie, please look elsewhere. I’m a professional educator myself, and kick myself for leaving my son at this school so long. It needs a complete overhaul…from administration to office staff to some teachers. Just awful. 🙁
I had my child going here for a short period and instead of teaching him anything the “teachers” mostly just babysit and gossip the whole time. Kids are left unattended because “management” is constantly sending staff home leaving rooms teach to child ratio uneven (which they were taken to court for recently).
At times my child would come home with marks, which are most likely from accidents from playtime which is understandable, but when i asked the teacher what happen, they would act dumb and always say they he must have came to school like that because nothing happened, they would also not be truthful on how he ate during the day, they would always say he eats everything (even when i found out they were throwing away food because he wasn’t eating) my son would come home hungry at times. Not truthful here all around. Not to mention there is no security!!! No one ID’s or pays attention to you as you walk in and pick up your child. Most of the time i walked in no one was even in the front. Very dangerous.
Worst part about this place is how it is managed, very rude staff in office. This place cannot be managed good with all of them being family members, there is no overhead here so they treat people and staff however they want because they cannot be fired by their own family. I’m sure this place was decent when they started, but it has now lost its way and values.
I would suggest either keeping your kids with you or pay a little more for better care for your children, Cornerstone off of Washington is a much better location, my son comes home everyday excited to go back and i am 100% happy now and stress free.
I dont know what goes on in this place during the day but my little one who is 19 months was not happy here, she attended this school for about 2 wks and during this time I saw more than a few red flags. Just after the 3rd day I notice that she no longer wanted to be at this place. She would cry when I left her and cry when I picked her up. I thought this was odd because at her previouse daycare she never cried when I left her nor when I picked her up. She loves playing with other babies and she has always attended a daycare starting from the age of 6 wks, so she is very familiar with the environment. I also notice that when we picked her up she would act like she was starving. This was strange to me since I would pack her a nice size lunch with snacks and according to Lad & Lassie they provide snacks as well. My daughter is a good eater so I doubt that she skipped a meal by choice. Also there were a few times when she came home with scratches and when asked what had happen no one seem to know. This last incident she had a bite mark and again no one seem to know what happen. Never did they fill out an incident report. This was irritating because I trusted them to care for with my child and they failed. .
My child now attends Cornerstone Daycare also in Whittier and she loves it! Not once has she cried nor has she come home starving. I also feel very comfortable having her at this place. I would’nt recommend Lad & Lassie to my worst enemy. I made the mistake by judging a book by its cover and I failed to take the bad reviews into consideration. If you decide to leave your child here, pay attention to detail and dont ignore the signs.
