Truly an awesome school. If you are looking to be challenged and receive an good education, look no further. I graduated last year. Every teacher here wants you to succeed and is willing to work with you to make that happen. To survive, you need to work hard and learn how to manage your classes. However it is worth it. I am currently enrolled in the IB program at Choctaw, considered one of the hardest programs in the nation. It is an absolute breeze compared to what the curriculum was like here. STEMM prepares you.
Any negative comments are coming from the students who didn’t try while they were attending, kids who I sat in classes with. If you are considering attending or have a child who you would like to go here, I would definitely make sure you/they know what they are getting into. It isn’t easy, but it can be managed.
Attended this place a few years ago, and I wouldn’t say it was worthwhile for me. Experiences here made me permanently hesitant to talk to teachers at all or ask for any help, as many of the staff were constantly rude and judgmental, some teachers even going as far as to yell at anyone who asked questions. The stress this place caused was also incredibly high. The benefit was getting a few high school credits early, which meant I was able to take an online class over the summer to skip 9th grade, but that was all.
If you’re a parent reading this, I’d say let your child choose whether or not to go, and make sure you’re there to help them every step of the way. It’s not an easy school to get through, so don’t be surprised if they struggle a lot.
If you think you can handle the advanced courses and extra homework, STEMM is a great choice. There are some big projects that require commitment, but if you like that kind of thing its great. I dont really like the uniforms and some of the teachers are really strict, but some of them are really chill. There is a ton more work than you would get at a regular middle school, and STEMM is kind of short staffed right now, but altogether its great and Im glad I went. There is a lot expected of you from some staff, but the atmosphere is mostly nice. In my experience, theres less bullying and when there is its put to a stop. This is only my experience though.
