Pros:
– Amazing student body/teachers
– Large amount of diversity, which fosters tolerance and community
– Low amounts of violence/drug abuse during school hours
Cons:
– Low API, not a very strong drive to achieve
– Few AP classes (no math/physics when I first came in)
Things may have changed since I attended. The reason the school gets 4 stars is because the student body and teachers made high school such an enjoyable experience that I don’t regret the lacking scholastic options at all. If I could choose to attend Gunderson over Leland or Pioneer again, I would.
By the way, I just graduated from UCLA with a BS in Civil Engineering. Some of my classmates went to Berkeley, Davis, Brown, Harvard, and Santa Barbara.
As far as the review by Brandon, we can only assume it is a disgruntled student. There are no gangs, no crack, and one of the lowest suspension rates in the district. It is a false review, and should be treated as such.
