Hi everyone,

My name is Dominiquea Scudera, and I’d like to share my experience. My son was enrolled at Olive Crest Academy but was expelled in the middle of the school year, leaving me with few options for a new placement.

Initially, I had concerns when touring the school as it was newly certified and specialized in mental health services, whereas my son had previously attended a behavioral school. However, upon visiting in person, meeting the staff, and learning about the programs offered, I decided to give the school a chance.

The school is immaculate and operates out of a church site, though it doesn’t incorporate religious lessons. Teacher and Doctor Janet Harris is exceptional; patient, caring, and possessing countless other qualities. Mr. Tim Chaidez, my son’s para-educator, started a customized physical education program under Dr. Harris and Mr. Chaidez’s guidance, which my son adored and greatly motivated him to attend school.

The homemade, fresh, and beautifull
y prepared food is commendable. Additionally, my son is sometimes taken to supermarkets to choose lunch items, linking to daily lessons about health and various subjects. Therapist Ms. Lori Brummel meets with me weekly during sessions to help me better understand and work with my child.

The school’s small student body is a blessing, offering almost a private class experience for my son. This individual attention was particularly beneficial in areas where my son struggled, such as math. President Mr. Christopher Chaidez is always accessible, attentive, and accommodating.

I’ve seen significant progress in my child’s daily life, and the school even helped celebrate his birthday according to his wishes. I only wish I had found them sooner.

I highly recommend this school for students with special needs. Having experienced various special education schools over the past eight years, I can confidently say this one stands out for its exceptional care and attention to each student

If you have black children DO NOT SEND THEM HERE . And don’t let the district Send them there. I have had multiple issues with administration not being qualified to manage high school students since December 2023. I made my district aware of this . My child endured racial abuse and was not protected . The school doesn’t inform parents of situations nor do they report them to your child’s district . My child was physically attacked and nothing was done and i wasn’t notified . She was attacked by two children at the same time, and the staff had no clue on what happened . No adults were present and no adults could give an explanation when I confronted the administration team. My black daughter was treated as an aggressive child and had police called upon her when she was the victim of the attack. No one attended to her needs but yet attended to the non black students that did the attacking . Asking them if they were ok . But my child has knots and lumps on her head & was attacked by two students . Completely unacceptable behavior from a school that claims to have every child’s best interest. From one parent to another black parent . Do not believe the gestures of protection or education that your child could receive if they attend . It’s a $ game and not worth your districts money or time .
I’d like to say we are very happy to have Chavez Wilson working with Skyler to help her meet her special needs goals. He’s helped to bring her a little closer to having conversations before the actual lessons, which is something she has struggled with. He has treated her as an individual instead of just one of his clients. He’s allowed her to freely speak while still encouraging her to be in task and listen to his instructions.
