I am a parent of a student at this school. This school has high academic expectations, they allow children feedom but the kids have to want the opportunity. This is not a free for all, they are preparing these young folks to enter the job market. In addition to regular academic work, my daughter has learned interview skills, written a resume and has had mock interviews. This is not a school for lazy immature children, it is a school for young folks striving and concerned for their future. If you have a kid that has the desire to exit high school with a marketable skill and is willing to put in some hard work this is a great option. My daughter will be much better off than I was coming out of high school.
Small, disorganized and not very aesthetically pleasing. Not a good place to cement the last vestige of social gleaming for your child while preparing for college. Your best bet, in my opinion is continue in your designated school (unless it too has problems) and take advantage of Career, College, Promise (CCP). Part time, free tuition program at Wake Tech while still attending high school during 11th and 12th grade year. My daughter did this, and still got to have the ‘high school experience’. She was accepted to both NC State, and UNC Chapel Hill. No need to send your kids to this, unless all they want to do is enter the work force, or finish an associate degree directly after high school.
I am a student a student here at North Wake and I love it. It’s a smaller environment, the teachers here really care about the students, and even though I’m only a freshman, I’m already learning about things that I’ll need to know as an adult that most don’t learn until they’re an adult. There’s not really any drama, unless you put yourself in it. Since it’s a PBL(Project Based Learning) school, we get big projects for most classes. I love doing these projects. We get to have fun, use our creativeness, and learn all at once. There are many other great schools, but this is one of the best high schools that I’ve seen.
