Our family has been involved with the Tahoe Truckee School of Music for the past six years. Our two daughters have been given a great outlet through TTSM to grow and create with the gift of music. Kaileigh and Maya ages 9 and 14 have been instructed by incredible, talented musicians in instruments ranging from ukulele, guitar, piano and voice. TTSM helped create an all kids band, Kai and the Monsters consisting of 5 North Lake Tahoe locals. The band has now been together for four years and performing for many local Tahoe venues such as Northstar, Music on the Beach in Tahoe City and Kings Beach, Truckee Music in the Park, Truckee Thursdays, Squaw’s Made in Tahoe, Truckee Crab Feeds, Fall Festivals and many more. The kids have gained so much confidence with the help of music instructor Sam Ravenna and the support from the school.

These kids have had opportunities that most adult bands would wish for. Ben Martin, Executive Director has done an amazing job at putting the kids first and really working to get them comfortable on stage to perform from small to large crowds as well as learning what it takes to set up the sound system and all the technology that goes with it. The band has experience so that they can now work through issues that may arise when they are playing live for an audience. It has been quite impressive what this group of teens has learned over the past few years. The amount of support through the school and the close friendships that have been created are priceless.

Our community is so fortunate to have the talented musicians, resources and knowledge that come from The Tahoe Truckee School of Music.

As a 56 year-old newcomer to the Truckee community, I was searching for a safe place to start guitar lessons after a long hiatus from playing guitar in my youth. Ben Martin, director of Tahoe Truckee School of Music has provided a perfect place for that. He is an excellent communicator and has a strong commitment to fundamentals. Moreover, he believes everyone should enjoy music and individualizes lesson plans to make the lesson meaningful. Tahoe Truckee School of Music also has a weekly drop-in “Song Group” where musicians of all levels come together in a casual venue which promotes further learning, and is lots of fun! The school is a non-profit corporation that is active in the community… they deserve a 5 star rating!
