The African American educator the evening of my visit was very unprofessional, in her vernacular, and her body language when she spoke to me and I made her aware of it. My daughters hair was not done properly and although I understood that it is a school, it is still a paid service, so both the student and educator should care about how a consumer leaves. I had to come home to redo my daughters hair, it was not straightened correctly because the young lady was incapable of doing textured African American hair. When I got home, my daughter’s scalp had residue from I’m assuming the shampoo or conditioner that wasn’t properly washed out, yet the young lady proceeded to improperly blow dry her hair, allowing the product to dry on her scalp. The African American educator did not come to help the girl until she was practically done blow drying my daughters hair, so her ability to regain control of an already poor experience was lost. My daughter is 8, and the educator and the student were making comments that were disheartening about hair textures. Not once did they consider how their words were effecting my daughter’s confidence. They made the comment that, “her hair is too thick, it’s not manageable,’ I’ve never done THIS TYPE OF HAIR BEFORE,’ and the worse was the educator saying, “she doesn’t have the best grade of hair,” implying that there is a such thing as good hair versus bad hair. Coming from another African American woman, I would expect a greater level of knowledge and efficiency when it comes to handling little African American girls hair, because it is apart of their confidence, as with most women, despite their race. Then the educator goes on to tell me it’s because my daughter has “relaxed hair,” but she doesn’t. Which again shows just how “educated” the educator was, because instead of asking me about my daughter’s hair, she assumed and was wrong to say the least. Needless to say, we had a horrible experience, but I still paid for the service. Unfortunately, it was a waste, because I still had to go home and redo our hair, and it was after 9pm when we were leaving, so it was a total inconvenience and waste of time, energy and money. We will not be returning, but I really hope Paul Mitchell Beauty School gets better educators who can truly and effectively develop their students in doing ALL types of hair. I do not blame the students for their lack of knowledge and experience on African American hair, it is the fault of their leadership, who lack decorum, education, customer service, and professionalism.
I went to do full highlights and haircut. I didn’t expect too much because it was a school but I was so happy with the outcome! I loved the highlights and the haircut! I loved the color and the style they cut my hair. Judy was my main stylist but Dione and Michelle helped doing my hair. I had long long hair and the ladies were so patient. They didn’t even take lunch to finish my hair. I’ve never been satisfied with any salon or stylist with highlights or haircut no matter how much I paid it never turned out the color or the style I asked. I feel so blessed that I got great results with great price! Thank you so much for great service, professionalism and being so dedicated and sweet my dears. You did a wonderful job. Thank you so much.
