What an absolute disaster! I would NEVER recommend this flight school to anyone. My son enrolled as an international student with all funds having to be paid upfront. He completed his PPL on an approved South African medical certificate (SACAA). We then applied for his USA medical and were hit with constant requests for costly Doctor’s reports which took months on end to compile and complete. The FAA takes months to respond and is virtually uncontactable. My son takes a medication which has been approved here in South Africa on a valid medical. Academy of Aviation refused to accommodate or assist us in any manner. My son was instructed to return to South Africa immediately. As a single mom I couldn’t continue with the costly medical appointments and reports and after nine months of continued frustration, I requested the school to revise his contract and refund the USD 24 000 on my son’s flying account that had not been utilized to complete his training. Management refused, we again provided alternative ways to use the funds as it was at the end of the day, my son’s funds. We have now been advised by management, after numerous requests, unanswered calls, messages and emails that my son has forfeited the funds as he ‘withdrew” from the programme, which he had explicitly not done. This is unethical and a display of gross misconduct on behalf of management. I again strongly advise to NEVER use this school as management have been ruthless, unapproachable and totally unaccommodating in their approach to my son as an international student. I have now had to continue my son’s training here in South Africa which has been an additional cost to me!
The school is not transparent with their students about their policies and how they charge their rates. I often felt held back by the schools procedures and their own internal systems. Internal communication was not good as well. My flight instructor was great tho!
Very good flight school. All the 172s have g1000. Very nice planes to train in. Also, AOA is a lot better and cheaper than ATP
