I’m a Guide here, but after experiencing Acton first-hand and witnessing the growth and magic happening here, I moved my then-9 year old son from a prestigious private school to AAC (he is 11.5 now). This is what I’ve experienced as a PARENT, because I am a parent first. Academically, he is thriving. Socially, he is growing. He is not set up to always succeed, he is experiencing micro-failures, learning social skills, practicing the proper use of consent, learning that everyone is different – things they don’t “teach” you in a conventional school. He is managing his own time, and on what it should be spent on. This system is created by the learners, it’s not a one-size-fits-all environment. Accountability is KEY. Love the Acton philosophy – let’s encourage critical thinking and learn from mistakes, and not always rely on an authoratative adult to make decisions for you.
I cannot say enough about Acton Academy Concord! My two boys have been there for almost 3 years. I am a public school teacher and had a hard time pulling my boys from my school, but it was the best decision my husband and I ever made!! My oldest was hanging on by a thread and then COVID hit and spiraled down in academics. In 2.5 years he has moved up 5 levels in reading! With a small class size and no pressure of homework, he has learned he can do hard things! My youngest was in K when COVID hit. We moved him mid second grade. AACs environment has allowed him to learn how to be a student and self motivator. We are so proud of the growth we have seen in them! Both my boys are thriving in this small school environment where they get to focus on their learning and growth mindset! We love AAC!
