Personally the school itself is very clean and tidy, however the school focuses too much on the physical education then it does the mental/electronic, see my brother went to this school and was in weight training (to which he only got in because he was a football player at one time) and one day he and the class were led out to the developing football field that year and layed out yard after yard of grass to be laid for the year. After they finished that year working in the the hot sun the head administration decided to scrap the entire field and instead put nerf grounds wherever you treaded, this completely made all the work my brother did irrelevant. With that said the principal paid a hefty price for those new fields which the football team rarely uses due to the fact they have another whole practice field, But with all that money to the field they only spent a small percentage on the schools computers. Also I feel as though the principal sometimes only selects teachers with a high degree in college and completely ignores the fact that some of them hate teaching or are just plain socially inept to the point they cannot deal with high schoolers or just ignore them if they are acting up or harassing another student, Everyday I spend at this school I feel as though people are trapped in their shell and cannot express themselves because the students of this school will be completely close minded, ignorant, preppy trash and will shoot down anyone elses’ opinions or choices in life. 90% of the male students are homophobes and cannot open up to the idea of someone with different preferences in life. Also the Irespond 24 packs that the school bought for us were over $1137.00 dollars, I do not know about you but $1137.00 sounds a bit pricey to get your grade back quicker. Finally the “smart boards” in every class are not very smart because either A: the projector has a problem or B: the smart board has a problem and the smart board themselves can cost from $6,999 up to $15,999 now with some simple math of every single class room having one of these will get pretty pricey if you ask me. Im not saying this school is absolutely terrible but I am saying there is need for major improvements
I have been associated with the school for seven years. My daughter graduated last year. I see some negative comments about phones being taken up when they went off in class, the school is strict on this to avoid interruptions in the class room. My daughter had hers taken up once, guess what she made sure it was off the remaining years she was there. We had to make a trip up there to retrieve the phone and made sure she understood this would be the last time it happened.
The school is proud of the sports programs and the incredible success of them. Allatoona graduates many students every year that receive Athletic Scholarships ranging from Football, Softball, Baseball, Lacrosse, Wrestling, Basketball, Tennis etc.. however I see the coaches interacting with the student athlete to ensure grades are maintained.
The dress code is strict (very strict) which is a positive, not a negative. Proper conduct is enforced in classrooms and outside of them at all events. I have seen kids marched out of plays, stadiums etc… for poor conduct.
I have a feeling some of these post most likely came from earlier years at the school as I have never heard one student complain about computers (lack there of). As for the technology, glitches happen even with the best equipment. The students will realize this once they are in the Adult world pursuing their careers.
The school is eight years old now and looks new thanks to the dedication of the leadership there. No organization or establishment is perfect, however they strive for excellence in all areas.
Allatoona High School is not a good school for education, but rather oriented around sports and giving bigger sports like Football a bigger and more significant portion of the budget, rather than paying the teachers that deserve it more. Speaking of which there aren’t many of those teachers that deserve that.raise either. Mrs. Grover comes into mind as one of the worst most disconnected Teachers at Allatoona High School. She accused my son of doing drugs and reported him to the clinic. The clinic then reported him to councelling which then had the (previous) Principal come in and put his fingers on my sons hand to say his pulse was high… Well of course his pulse was high the principal and all of the administrators are telling my son that he is doing drugs when he isn’t!!!! This lasted the whole entire block as well he missed his class because Mrs. Grover had made another awful judgment call which is a common accurance in this school. If you think your child is safe or going to a nice school by attending Allatoona High School your wrong if this message gets far then I will release even more horrifiying stories from this school.
