Altadena Academy of Music has been an amazing musical education resource for our two young children. Our daughter started in-person piano lessons in 2017, and then switched seamlessly to online lessons during the pandemic. When she later began playing violin as part of her school’s required music program, her piano teacher, Ms. Valerie, quickly transitioned to become her violin teacher as well, and did an excellent job teaching her many violin fundamentals she was not learning in school. Our son also began online piano lessons with Ms. Valerie last year, and while we were originally skeptical about their ability to learn virtually after enduring a chaotic few years of virtual elementary school, Ms. Valerie has made it such an enriching experience for our family that we would never consider giving up the convenience of virtual lessons to go back in person.
Our child takes bass lessons, and he loves it and seems to be learning a lot, even though he’s not he most self-motivated to practice. But he loves practicing when we ask him to. (We have another child who plays piano elsewhere, and naturally plays daily.) There’s an online system where you can log practice time, but for me that doesn’t work. An old-fashioned calendar works best for us. Regardless, the studio is great!
Altadena Academy of Music is a joy! I am an older adult and have been taking piano lessons for almost ten months. I appreciate Ms. Regina’s patience as my piano teacher, her knowledge, and sense of humor.
When demonstrating how my piano assignments can sound, Ms. Regina’s interpretations always uplift and sparkle 🙂
