I have been competing in sports for over 20 years now: boxing, wrestling, soccer, baseball, and basketball. Some of which was through the Ann Arbor Rec & Ed. Up until this year, all of my experiences were positive. Unfortunately a woman named Karen Draves is now in charge of Team Sports. Under her supervision the basketball league has become extremely unorganized, unprofessional, and inconsistent. The refs are also inexperienced, biased. We play in what is supposed to be the most competitive league they offer, yet my guys have been assessed technical fouls for: saying And 1 after a layup, saying damn after missing a shot, and I even received a flagrant technical resulting in a one game suspension after a game was called with almost 4 minutes remaining due to an unruly fan. I then approached the ref pleading for an explanation and was hit with a technical. The following day I called Karen in an effort to voice my concerns, but what I was met with was the site manager who was at the game lying saying I received two technicals, and the game had been called because of me. Which is completely inaccurate on both accounts. After digging into it, Karen found I indeed only received one technical after the game was over. Apparently wanting to salvage some kind of dignity after siding with her lying employee, she then told me it wasn’t a technical, but a flagrant (even though I didn’t touch anyone), which requires a one game suspension! I try to give people yhe benefit of the doubt, but racism seems to be the only explanation. Certain teams constantly cuss, argue with the refs, and talk smack to opposing players, but if my guys (who are primarily minorities) sneeze in thr wrong direction its a technical! As if that isn’t absurd enough. She also has allowed one of her employees to run their own team. Resulting in a conflict of interest, and opposing teams losing games to refs who they’re friends with. If you want to compete unhindered, and on an even playing field avoid this league!!
They do not return calls and my perception is that they are very very unorganized or understaffed or just plain old don’t care about service.. The voicemail was not changed by 10:00 the Monday after winter break. I left message with no return call. My husband calls Ns was left on hold for 20 minutes before he hung up. I called and all the prompts take me to a voicemail instead of a person during open hours No sense in leaving a voicemail because they obviously don’t return calls. Now we are going to miss the deadline for the sport I was trying to sign my child up for! The worst recreation center I’ve ever dealt with..or should I say contacted. I can’t reach any live person to actually deal with anything.
The handful of classes I have taken have been great! I personally have not had to deal with customer service so don’t know if other review are legit. I always register online and hope my work schedule doesn’t change so I can attend as many of the sessions that I’ve paid for!
