If I could give this “school” a negative 5 stars I would. It’s a joke of a school full of people who don’t teach their students anything about the trades they claim to train you in except for welding. The craft instructors are extremely rude and have a lot of problems with how to appropriately communicate with students. My craft instructor Ben Smail threw my wrench and then expected me to pick it up. Instead of being held accountable for it the echelons who run this school James Jessup and his buddies cover it up and expect me to stay with that instructor for another 2 months before being rotated out. The school is operated by a good ole boys club and it’s baffling how no one is held accountable. My craft instructor never even apologized to me for his rude inappropriate behavior. Nor did anyone in the school help me out with anything. Especially the X43 department that defended Ben Smail and didn’t even hold the man accountable. Don’t go to this school. There are much better schools elsewhere that teach the same thing in less time and are actually operated by professionals.
I am a 1975 graduate of NNS Apprentice School. Before coming to the AS I studied architecture for two years. I believe the career at NNS I retired from in 2015 was far more rewarding than I would have had as an architect. I started as a X42 pipe fitter and after a year and a half progressed on to a machinery/piping design department. During my career I did either new ship or ship repair work on every type of tanker, cruise ship, and nuclear powered frigates, submarines and aircraft carriers. If you meet the requirements to become a part of NNS Apprentice School I guarantee you will have no regrets.
