We just moved from Arlington High to Carrollton. My son used to be really down on AISD but now wishes he was back for so many reasons. If we can get him back to Arlington High we will. You have no idea what a Great school and District you have until you leave. 1). There is a long tradition of Great joy and pride with this school. The school my son goes to now when the students come out of school no one speaks to each other. No one smiles. Driving thru tbe pick up lane is like going to a funeral. 2). All or at least most of the feeder schools that feed into Arlington high you know yiu have learned something if you apply yourself. At the school my son is now in many of the students didn’t know if the pyramids were still around or how to measure fluid in a beaker. 3). Arlington High is one of the few schools that as an IB. This is important if you’re serious about college. 4). People at Arlington high are very friendly and excepting for the most part. Up in Carrollton, extremely rude if you are not from there. If you try to talk to people like during lunch they look at you like you have 3 heads. Arlington they will talk to you, there is a lively group participation in classes. I have had two other kids who have graduated from Arlington High. They were prepared to go into major universities. I admit that yes, there are things that need improving, but you have a jewel of a school if you treat it right. If parents volunteer and get involved in all levels. Many schools do not have that. My son is miserable and feeling like he is not learning anything. He has no one to talk to where as he had many friends. The classes were more challenging. This is a Good school.
I wish the school was as good as it was afew yrs ago when my son went to it. The principal was fantastic!!!. It wasn’t perfect, but it was better. Too many fights. Witnessed one out in the middle of the crosswalk as I was dropping off. I am told by many sources that it is very common to see two or three fights a day. With the new principle and Superintendent they have changed the face of Arlington High and not for the better. To much of wanting to have all schools the same in education ect…There is a reason why parents mpve to certain places. Anymore it is known for being a ghetto school not for its academics and leadership, not like Martian. The teachers are burned out and many of them are jaded by the students and administration not having their backs. I wish it would get better. If it weren’t for the parents getting involved the school would be hurting.
I liked this school. People there were nice. Easy to make friends, if you open up a little bit. I graduated class of ’13, and the teachers there were nice and so kind. Sure, everyone gets moody at point, but they are really nice. Even the security guards are nice (most of them). SMILE, SMILE, SMILE. We have a Special Needs program and the kids in it are soo kind. Only complaint is some kids walk slow in the hallways and everyone gets annoying by senior year. Lol but other than that I loved this school. (: Oh, also no bullying that I witnessed, just a few fights because kids fight over friendships and love or whatnot, but that’s it and that’s basically high school.
