I’ve been here every day now for nearly two years as a relief teacher, at Ashdale SC. I’ve been doing relief now for over 15 years at many different schools in WA. I can honestly say I love this school, and it is one of the best. Staff are very kind and supportive of me, the kids are fantastic and it seems a very nurturing environment to work in. Like every school, there is an element of disruptive, rude and non-compliant students. However, the staff in student services are very active in following up complaints, pulling students out of class who are disruptive and keeping parents in touch with any latest developments with student’s behaviour. I am very fortunate to be teaching at this school and if my children were young again, I would have no hesitation in enrolling them in this wonderful school. P Sutton
Honestly had the best time of my life at this school! I didn’t have a single bad teacher in my whole high school journey. All the people that are commenting bad things about this school are the people that either caused trouble to the school or were hanging out with people that caused trouble. Obviously if you try to wag every recess and lunch, the staff is going to tell you off or give you detention which is fair. If you don’t experience the school as a proper student then of course you won’t see the positive sides of it. The problem isn’t the school but some of the people in it that think they are too old for school and talk to teachers disrespectfully. The teachers don’t deserve this. I understand that some people might have had genuine bad experiences but for those people that cause the drama and come on here to give a bad review, GROW UP! And for the people that are commenting about the toilets, it’s you students that make them dirty and vandalise it. The poor cleaners are tired of cleaning it up. Y’all are not kids, learn how to use the toilets properly or do y’all need to be potty trained again? But overall, most of the students at this school are disciplined (I mean I don’t know about now because the kids coming every year into this school are getting worst) and know how to behave unlike the few idiots that give the school a bad name. Thank you for the amazing 6 years Ashdale, you will be missed!
This review is based on our experience thus far (from yr7-8).
Teachers: excellent. Informative and always engaged with parents. Easy to contact and they are very prompt in addressing any concerns. However, they need to look into their substitute teachers. Very poor picks.

Subjects: if your child is academic then they are in a good place. STEM and CTI are excellent programs at this school. ASC excell in this. Outside of this, the school does have extension programs for students needing extra challenges for subjects like English, Maths and Science. They also have great vocational subjects for students not persuing the ATAR avenue.

Environment: like most schools, there are issues with vaping and bad behaviour, such as bullying. The school does address bullying and student safety quite seriously. Vaping is a problem inside and outside the school grounds. Toilet facilities are non-existent. Many students do not use these facilities. Apparently it is disgusting as those troubled kids, trash it. School really needs to address this. Maybe charge the parents for property damage.

Overall, Ashdale Secondary is a great school with amazing teachers and great programs. Many of its pupil are extremely bright and do the right thing. However, you get those 5% of students who mishave outside school hours with their school uniform on display, and we all know how well bad news travel.

How does it compare to a private school like Kingsway College? I think the only issue ASC has is student behaviour when outside school. Which can be said, it is more of a home issue. Students need to learn how to conduct themselves in the public eye. Have self respect and self value. KC students understand this. This and the +$10k price tag, would be the only difference between these 2 schools.

The bathrooms sometimes have no soap dispensers or paper towels.
The teachers are alright to a certain extent HOWEVER the students get worse every year with rude, incompetent, disrespectful students, ruining other students learning who are actually trying. Some teachers need to be careful of how they word their comments besides telling children to “Stop Breathing”.
