My 9 year old daughter took singing lessons and piano lessons here. She took piano lessons when she was younger with Cathy and we had no issues (and this is the only reason I gave two stars). She no longer wanted to play piano which was the only reason we quit. When she decided she wanted to do singing lesson we enrolled in singing lessons here. Cathy the singing instructor (they have multiple Cathy’s here), seemed to be a good fit until an inappropriate comment was made to my child without us present (we were told by Cathy the singing instructor that she did not want parents present as children do better without the parents). She told my daughter that since my husband and I did not get married until after she was born, then my husband is not her biological father. We were appalled. My 9 year old came home upset and confused with questions that led into conversations she was not ready for. Brenda, the sweet office manager, offered for us to try a different singing instructor and the owner offered us a month of free lessons and said “it was a misunderstanding, and Cathy did not mean anything by her comment”. We then tried a lesson with another singing instructor. She was ok, but my daughter did not click with her. On the third lesson, my daughter got embarrassed by a rant the teacher went on and began to cry. This instructor told my daughter, “if you don’t like me as a teacher, you can quit. No one is forcing you to be here”. I was present and told her, “it has nothing to do with her not liking you. She just got embarrassed”. Needless to say, we are no longer customers of this music school. Not even free classes are worth the disaster this place is.
My 5 year old son attends the Atascocita School of Music. He is currently in lessons for pre-music to learn how to play the piano. His teacher is very detailed and has taught him so much. The employees are always respectful and personable. Scheduling is flexible based on availability. I sit in the waiting area while my son is in his lesson and can hear the other students playing or singing. Always nice to hear. Highly recommend this establishment for any music lovers that are interested increasing their music knowledge.
My son took guitar lessons with Grant, and it was a great experience. My son is young and new to playing the guitar. Grant was patient, technically precise, and did a great job tailoring the instruction to my son’s developmental level. The school is well-run, and the teachers are very friendly. Grant is a great guitar player and focuses on a strong grasp of the fundamentals of music. I would recommend the school to anyone, young or old.
