I can see why a student could not wait to get out of the school. I hope that person was one of the few who graduated in being prepared for the world. No this is not a great high school when it comes to education. I have read the reviews and some of the complaints. It is true that student scores are below national average. All parents (100%) need to ask the teachers and principals what they are going to do about it, if there will be any change. Don’t rely on a few parents to do everything for you. Don’t rely on the school and teachers to do everything. It is not fair for the students to graduate and not be prepared for the world. All parents need to participate (100%) to show their concern for their own children and for their community. If your child attends this school, you must participate and let the teachers and principal know you care and you expect the children to meet national standards and beyond. Remember, you will also have to participate. This will show you are aware of the crisis these students face in their life. It will show your children, you care about them and their future. It will show the teachers, principal and the community you care. It would be nice to see this change, and not just complaints that will go nowhere. Saying this is a good school and people are nice is definitely not enough. We are concerned about education and not about it being ok to graduate as borderline illiterate. Things can get better but you need to care too, and take the challenge to participate and make a change yourself.
I was part of the class of ’82. It was fun; couldn’t wait to get out, ya know.? I almost didn’t graduate. The wood teacher gave me a D-. That year was when the Metal/Auto teacher Mr. Johnson got his sleeve caught up in the lathe and was banging his head against the machine. Nobody was even in the shop!!! We heard him yelling and stopped the lathe !!! NO LOOSE CLOTHING. ooops.
Terrible service, disrespectful staff, and general disregard for students. Protect your student from ever going through the trauma that this school will ultimately bring to them. Go back to the drawing board Barstow HS, you need to clean up your act.
